Wolves vs. Sheffield United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

It’s fifth against sixth this weekend as Wolverhampton Wanderers welcome Sheffield United to Molineux on Sunday afternoon. Both teams are in great form at the moment, with only a single point separating them in the Premier League table coming into this fixture.

Past Meetings

Both teams won their home games when they were in the Championship the season before last, with Wolves easing to a comfortable 3-0 victory at Molineux. Sheffield United’s win during that campaign is the only time they’ve beaten the Wanderers in the last seven meetings between the sides, with Wolves winning four of those.

Team News

Nuno Espirito Santo could welcome back two players from injury this weekend, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Bennett facing late fitness tests on back and groin injuries respectively. Willy Boly is the only Wolves player definitely out, as he continues to recover from surgery last month.

Opposing manager Chris Wilder also has two players who are rated as 50/50 coming into this game. A late call will be made on John Egan, while Lys Mousset, who scored his team’s second goal against Manchester United last time out, is a doubt with a tight hamstring.

Wolves vs. Sheffield United Preview and Predictions

While Wolves were perhaps expected to be one of the candidates who could force their way into the top six this season, the same could hardly be said of Sheffield United. The Blades are flying high and uneaten in their last six games, although their opponents this weekend are on an even longer unbeaten run.

Wolves haven’t lost in their last eight Premier League fixtures, with their League Cup loss away to rivals Aston Villa the only time the Molineux outfit have tasted defeat in their last 13 matches in all competitions. The Wanderers put in a good performance away to Bournemouth last weekend, and are the 1.90 favourites to make it four straight wins this weekend.

Sheffield United meanwhile are priced at 4.25, after their helter-skelter game against Manchester United on Sunday. The Blades were excellent for the first 70 minutes of that match, before throwing away a two-goal lead as they conceded three times in seven minutes to go 3-2 down. Oliver McBurnie’s 90th-minute equaliser was the least the Blades deserved, and their performance will fill them with confidence.

Considering their recent record against Wolves though, and the fact that the home team are on such a good run, it would be a major shock if United can pick up all three points on Sunday. A draw would be a very good result for the away team, and that’s available at 3.45 in the betting.
