Wolfsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
24 November 2021
Volkswagen Arena – Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund can go top of the Bundesliga table, for a few hours at least, with victory over Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday afternoon. Die Schwarzgelben have a superb record against Die Wölfe and will be favoured by most punters in the football betting online.
Dortmund are unbeaten in their last 12 matches against Wolfsburg, winning 11, including each of the last six. Die Wölfe only avoided defeat during that run courtesy of a goalless draw at the Westfalenstadion in January 2018, while Die Borussen scored 30 goals across their 11 victories, conceding only three at the other end.
Wolfsburg manager Florian Kohfeldt expects to be without five players for this weekend’s tough assignment. Xaver Schlager, William and Bartosz Białek are all out with ACL injuries, while Renato Steffen has a calf problem and first-choice goalkeeper Koen Casteels has tested positive for Covid-19.
Erling Haaland continues his spell on the sidelines for Dortmund, while Marco Rose is missing another seven players as it stands. Thorgan Hazard has tested positive for Covid-19, while Marcel Schmelzer and Mateu Morey both have knee injuries. Giovanni Reyna, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Marius Wolf and Nico Schulz are also on the treatment table.
Wolfsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview and Predictions
Even though Borussia Dortmund are without their main man at present, Wolfsburg still face an uphill struggle when they welcome Die Schwarzgelben to the Volkswagen Arena this weekend. Not only have Die Wölfe not managed to beat Dortmund since May 2015, they haven’t even scored a single goal against Die Borussen in the last nine meetings between the clubs.
Dortmund have been missing Haaland’s goals over the last month, but they’ve still managed to win three of their four Bundesliga fixtures without the Norway striker. They went down 2-1 away to RB Leipzig just before the international break, but returned from the hiatus with a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart.
Despite moving to within a point of Bayern Munich last weekend due to Die Roten’s shock defeat to Augsburg, Dortmund were unconvincing against Stuttgart and needed an 85th-minute winner from Marco Reus to see off the team third from bottom in the table. Rose will want an improved performance here, with Der BVB the 2.30 favourites for the win.
A price of over even money on the away win appears very generous given Dortmund’s superiority over Wolfsburg in recent years, with the home team not looking particularly tempting at 2.90. Die Wölfe have only won two of their last eight league games, losing four and drawing the other two. The hosts would surely be happy with another stalemate here, which is 3.60 in the betting.
Borussia Dortmund to win to nil at 4.75
Wolfsburg have failed to score against Dortmund on their last nine attempts, while this bet has paid out in each of the last six meetings between these teams and looks very appealing at these odds.
Borussia Dortmund to win 2-0 at 13.00
The average score across the last six meetings between these clubs is exactly 2-0 to Dortmund, with this result paying out four times - including in their three most recent encounters.
