Werder Bremen vs. Borussia Dortmund Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
20 February 2020
Saturday 21 February
Weser Stadium – Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund are out for revenge on Saturday, as they face a relegation-threatened Werder Bremen side that knocked them out of the cup. Dortmund are fighting at the top of the table, vying for top spot with RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich.
A surprise outcome in a five goal thriller saw Werder beat Dortmund 3-2 earlier this month. Werder took a two-goal lead after 30 minutes, and Dortmund were unable to overturn the deficit.
Florian Kohfeldt re-introduced Joshua Sargent and Marco Friedl against RB Leipzig at the weekend, with both players likely to feature on Saturday. Philipp Bargfrede remains side-lined though injury although Ludwig Augstinsson may return.
Marco Reus looks set to miss the majority of the remainder of the season, meaning Erlind Haaland is likely to start yet again at the weekend. Dan-Axel Zagadou may feature at centre-back having been nursed back from injury, with Mario Gotze also hoping to benefit from rotation.
Werder Bremen vs. Borussia Dortmund Predictions, Preview and Predictions
Werder sit five points from safety, second from bottom in the Bundesliga, and may be expecting the worst for the visit of Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Lucien Favre’s side have scored the most goals in Germany’s first division, whilst the hosts have conceded the most, suggesting an onslaught is likely. However, just two weeks have passed since a goal-for-goal slog out saw Kohfeldt’s side knock Dortmund out of the DFB-Pokal, which will provide a glimmer of hope for the home side. They’re 6.65 for another win, with Dortmund at 1.40 and the draw 5.60.
Dortmund may also be somewhat fatigued, having played French champions elect in the Champions League on Tuesday, and hardly have the best squad depth. Injury to Marco Reus and the decision to sell Paco Alcacer means that new signing Haaland is Favre’s only fit striker, whilst Jadon Sancho is starting virtually every game.
With a longer break, and more energy in their legs, Werder may well be able to pull off yet another shock against their visitors this weekend.
Haaland to score anytime at 1.52
The Dortmund striker won Bundesliga player of the month in January and has looked unstoppable this season.
Over 2.5 goals at 1.31
All the stats point towards a high scoring game, although Dortmund’s mid-week efforts may keep the goal count lower than expected.
