Vicarage Road – Premier League
Nigel Pearson’s men are out of the relegation zone, but not the battle and will need to continue their great run of form against a crumbling Tottenham. Jose Mourinho’s men are struggling to perform of late and will be hoping that Watford’s run doesn’t continue when they travel across London on Saturday.
Watford aren’t known for their great record against the top teams in the League, but Spurs are currently struggling to get the best of them in the top division. The Hornets have only lost once in their four last meetings – if you exclude the eventual loss on penalties in the League Cup last season. The reverse fixture even this season, when Watford have been struggling to cope with the expectations after a great 2018-19 season, ended in a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The last game at Vicarage Road ended in a 2-1 win for the home side, thanks to goals from Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart, as Abdoulaye Doucouré had opened the scoring for Spurs with an own goal.
Mentioned Cathcart is currently at risk of suspension against Spurs as Watford have a full squad available ahead of their visit from Spurs this weekend and Pearson could pick from a healthy squad.
Spurs have lost their main forward Harry Kane and are currently without Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele in the midfield. Christian Eriksen’s future has also made them struggle in the midfield department. Ben Davies is still out, and Hugo Lloris will need more time before he could be back between the sticks at Tottenham.
Watford vs. Tottenham Preview and Predictions
Pearson has been able to lift Watford out of the bottom three, but they are not quite there yet. He insists the job is not done, as they are currently one point above the relegation zone and won’t able to calm down ahead of an intense run-in of the season to help the club to salvation this term. Watford have taken 13 points from a possible 18 and present a difficult task for the visitors this weekend. If you think they can inflict another defeat on the Lilywhites, Watford may be backed at 3.15 to win the game.
A draw at Vicarage Road stand at 3.55 times your money as Pearson’s men are focused on collecting as many points possible after jumping out of the relegation zone for the first time this season. Tottenham travel from a completely different spell and are now struggling after starting to gel under their new boss.
Mourinho needs to troubleshoot as they are currently eight in the Premier League after a few weeks of inconsistency, he will have to point towards his own track record to help Spurs bounce back from their recent setbacks and help his players believe in the project going forward. The Portuguese player had a great start to life in his new home stadium, but lately the issues have been underlined by three league games without a win. Two of them have been 1-0 losses against Southampton and Liverpool respectively and Spurs are currently nine points away from the top four in England.
Will Spurs be able to turn the tide starting with Watford, as they may be backed at 2.25 to win the away game this weekend and kickstart their season even without their leading goalscorer Harry Kane in the squad. Mourinho has been linked with a new striker and has the support of the hierarchy but might have to look for a loan deal solution at best.
Watford have started to turn their season around, and Spurs must do the same when they come up against the Hornets at their own turf.
Total amount of goals Under 2.5 at 1.10
Spurs are lacking goals lately and have scored only two times in their last three games, both in the 2-2 draw against Norwich City from the relegation zone. Their last two games have ended in 1-0 losses as Watford are looking strong. But another low scoring game could be on the cards as Spurs play away for the fourth time since December 28.
Tottenham to win to nil at 3.85
Spurs may have to keep out Watford and stop them from scoring to get all the points at Vicarage Road. Their recent records without the World Cup winner Lloris in goal have been poor and the defence will have to put down a great contest to stop a confident Hornets. Spurs should be able to win and if they do, it may have meant that they shut down shop at their end
