Vicarage Road – Premier League
Claudio Ranieri kicks off his Watford reign this weekend with a testing home clash against Liverpool. The Hornets opted to sack former boss Xisco Muñoz before the international break, with Ranieri immediately stepping in as his replacement.
Both sides won the home leg of their Premier League meetings the season before last, but the Reds have won five of their nine most recent league meetings with Watford. Check out the Spin Sports blog to see if Ranieri can enjoy a positive return to the Premier League, as we delve deeper into the online football betting.
Ranieri is without Josh King and Francisco Sierralta after they both picked up injuries before the international break, with Christian Kabasele a long-term absentee.
Reds boss Jürgen Klopp is set to be impacted by the international window, with Brazilian duo Alisson and Fabinho both set to miss out this weekend due to their late returns to the UK. Irish international Caoimhín Kelleher is set to replace Alisson in goal, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is on standby for Fabinho with Thiago Alcântara and Diogo Jota both in line to miss out through injury.
Watford vs. Liverpool Preview and Predictions
Watford have enjoyed a relatively solid start to the 2021-22 Premier League season, with seven points from seven games so far putting them in 15th place on their return to the top flight. However, that run of form was not enough to keep Xisco in a job, and the pressure will be on Ranieri to edge them up the table in the coming months.
Liverpool are still unbeaten in league action this season, with the 2020 champions second in the table on 15 points. A thrilling 2-2 draw with Manchester City before the international break denied them the chance to take top spot, but Klopp will be confident ahead of this tie.
Despite the expected new manager bounce following Ranieri’s arrival at Vicarage Road, and the visitors missing key players, Liverpool should have the edge here, with an away win coming in at a price of 1.36.
Mohamed Salah has been in outstanding form for Liverpool so far this season, with the Egyptian superstar netting nine goals in nine games in all competitions. He’s one to watch to open the scoring after his stunner against City.
Liverpool to win 2-0 at 7.75
Ranieri has only had a limited amount of time to work with his new players this week and despite some notable absentees, Klopp knows there is little room for error as he looks to keep pace with their title rivals.
Both teams not to score at 1.86
Alongside their march up the table in 2021-22, Liverpool have also looked to reinject some defensive stability into their performances in recent weeks, with an average of less than a goal a game conceded, including four clean sheets.
