Watford vs. Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
31 October 2019
Saturday 2 November
Vicarage Road – Premier League
Chelsea will look to increase their gap over fifth placed Arsenal as they take on a Watford team in dire need of a win. The Blues have been impressive, but Watford are yet to register a win this season and sit bottom of the table.
Chelsea have had the upper hand against The Hornets on the last couple of occasions, doing the double over them last season. Watford have only managed one win over Chelsea in 20 years, this came in a 4-1 win in February 2018, prior to this you had to go back to September 1999 for a Watford victory.
Despite langusihing at the bottom of the Premier League table, expect boss Quique Sanchez Flores to remain faithful to his starting XI. Star man Gerard Deulofeu was left on the bench for the 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Everton, but will be brought back into the starting XI ahead of the game against Chelsea. Left-back Adam Masina and right-back Daryl Jannmaat should also make their return to the first team.
Frank Lampard will put his side through the rotation ringer after playing Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Expect Lampard’s fringe players such as Christian Pulisic and Michy Batshuayi to get a chance against the Red Devils, but drop down to the bench for the game against Watford.
Watford vs. Chelsea Preview and Predictions
Watford are in dire need of a morale booster, having taken just five points so far this season and are winless at the foot of the table. Even so, don’t expect The Hornets to gain something from this match, especially as Chelsea seem to be hitting their stride under Frank Lampard. Chelsea are 1.68 for the away victory on Saturday, with Watford at 4.80, and a draw at 4.20.
The Blues have now won four consecutive Premier League fixtures since narrowly losing 2-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, and will really fancy themselves against Watford. After bedding him in slowly, Christian Pulisic scored a hat-trick last weekend against Burnley, and Lampard may retain his faith in the young American.
Watford are finding goals hard to come by. Indeed they have only scored once since mid-September in the Premier League, and Sanches Flores knows he has a real task on his hands in a bid to keep The Hornets afloat this season.
Their clean sheet against Bournemouth last time out however my instill some confidence, and Watford fans will be hoping that can at least put on a spirited display against their fellow Londoners.
Tammy Abraham to score first at 3.75
The young striker is Chelsea’s top scorer this season, with eight goals already to his name. Abraham is a good bet to get Chelsea off the mark in this game.
Chelsea to win to nil at 3.05
With Watford struggling to keep goals out or score at the other end, and with Chelsea’s free-scoring nature, The Blues are good value to win by a margin to nil.
