Villarreal vs. Real Madrid Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
18 November 2020
Saturday 21 November
Estadio de la Ceramica - La Liga
La Liga returns to our screens this weekend following the international break with a clash between Villarreal and champions Real Madrid. It’s second versus fourth in the table, although the home team have played one game more than their visitors on Saturday afternoon.
Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last five games against Villarreal, although Los Blancos have only actually won two of those. The three draws were all in Villarreal, where Madrid haven’t won since 2017. The Yellow Submarine’s last win against the capital club was a 1-0 triumph at the Bernabeu in January 2018.
Alberto Moreno is out of this game, as the former Liverpool left-back continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury. Fellow defender Juan Foyth is a doubt for Villarreal, although Jaume Costa is expected to be fit for this game after a minor issue.
Zinedine Zidane could be without three players due to positive coronavirus tests. Eden Hazard, Casemiro and Eder Militao are all awaiting negative tests before they can return to action, while Benzema, Lucas Vazquez and Ferland Mendy are all injury doubts, along with Federico Valverde.
Villarreal vs. Real Madrid Preview and Predictions
Real Madrid have a decent record against Villarreal, only going down once in their last nine matches against the Yellow Submarine. However, Los Blancos have often struggled to turn draws into victories against the Castellon outfit, while Zidane’s side have been far from their best so far this season.
Los Blancos have already lost twice in La Liga as they seek to defend their crown, although Barcelona’s even greater struggles mean the Madrid side are right in the thick of the action at the top of the table. It’s been a long international break for Real following their 4-1 defeat to Valencia which led them into it, and Zidane will hope for a reaction from his players here.
That was a third loss in seven for Madrid in all competitions, with Los Blancos also struggling in the Champions League. Villarreal will hope to take advantage of their visitors’ poor form this weekend, with the Yellow Submarine currently on a four-match winning run.
Unbeaten in their last nine matches, Unai Emery’s side haven’t lost since they slumped to a 4-0 defeat against Barcelona in their third La Liga fixture of the campaign. That was their one and only defeat in 12 fixtures across all competitions so far this term, with Villarreal priced at 3.20 for the win here. Madrid are still the favourites though at 2.15, while you can back the draw at 3.80.
Score draw at 4.00
Villarreal were in excellent form just before the international break, while each of their last three home games against Madrid have produced score draws.
2-2 draw at 11.00
All of those games finished 2-2, and the same result this weekend is certainly not out of the question.
