Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Premier League
Tottenham welcome Watford to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, with the visitors yet to earn a win under returning manager Quique Sanchez Flores. The Hornets are deep in the relegation mire, and need to start pulling away soon.
Honours have been shared when Spurs and Watford met last season, with both sides winning at home in the league, and a 2-2 draw at full-time in the cup, won on penalties by Tottenham.
Mauricio Pochettino won’t have been happy that Harry Kane started both of England’s games this week, with the forward looking fatigued at times this season. However, Juan Foyth’s return for Argentina will provide encouragement for Spurs, with the defender possibly slotting in at right-back.
Troy Deeney remains a long-term absentee for Watford, particularly concerning for the visitors as Flores looks unconvinced by Danny Welback in the central striker role. Gerard Deulofeu was dropped for the Hornets last game, but is likely to return to the line-up here.
Tottenham vs. Watford Preview and Predictions
Tottenham are currently undergoing their worst spell under Pochettino, having won just one game of their last six. The visit of Watford on Saturday provides the perfect opportunity to turn this around, with the Hornets sitting bottom of the Premier League table.
Flores may have slightly improved the side since returning to the dug-out, earning a draw and a cup win. However, given that these results were against Championship strugglers Swansea, and recent promoted side Sheffield United, fans may be concerned about what will happen against higher quality opposition. Indeed, Watford are out to 7.00 for the away win and even the draw is at 4.50.
This weekend’s game is likely to show exactly that, as despite their struggles in recent weeks, Tottenham have a quality squad, and a number of options from the bench. Pochettino will be desperate for a win, and will likely Harry Kane, although even without their talisman, offer plenty of attacking threat through the likes of Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura. That firepower is largely why Spurs are available at 1.44 for the victory.
With Spurs sitting in ninth place in the table, anything other than a win would be vastly disappointing for the home side, whereas a point would be a key result for the visitors. Watford may hope that this pressure can work in their advantage, as both sides aim to start afresh following the international break.
Harry Kane to score anytime at 1.60
The England striker was on target against Bulgaria, and will look to bring this forward into domestic football.
Both teams to score at 1.71
Spurs have kept just one clean sheet in six, in a match against Colchester. And despite Watford’s poor form, a counter-attacking goal could well be on the cards, with Spurs not at their usual organised best.
