Tottenham vs. Liverpool Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Liverpool bring their 11-match Premier League winning run to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend, as the Reds take on Jose Mourinho’s Spurs. That sequence started with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield in October, with the north London outfit only winning five times since, and sacking former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Past Meetings

Liverpool have won the last four meetings between the clubs, including a 2-0 victory in the Champions League final in Madrid last June. Tottenham have only won one of their last 16 matches against the Reds in all competitions, losing 11, although it was a convincing 4-1 triumph at Wembley in October 2017.

Team News

Harry Kane is expected to miss around eight weeks of action after tearing a hamstring on New Year’s Day. He joins Tanguy Ndombele, Hugo Lloris and Ben Davies on the treatment table, while Danny Rose is also expected to miss this game. Moussa Sissoko could be in contention though.

Jurgen Klopp is contending with a mounting injury crisis, after James Milner only lasted for nine minutes of Liverpool’s FA Cup victory over Everton on Sunday. Naby Keita, Fabinho and Nathaniel Clyne are all injured, although Xherdan Shaqiri, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren are nearing a return.

Tottenham vs. Liverpool Preview and Predictions

It hasn’t taken long for the cracks to start appearing in Jose Mourinho’s spell at Tottenham, and the injury to leading man Kane could hardly come at a worse time. Liverpool meanwhile are coasting at the top of the Premier League table, with the Reds enjoying a 13-point lead and a game in hand over second-placed Leicester City.

Spurs have usually coped well without Kane in the past, once winning eight in a row when the England captain was out. However, Kane is integral to Mourinho’s style of play, with the Portuguese implementing a more direct style and the likes of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura far less able to deal with the rise in longer balls.

That’s likely to be even more pertinent when Tottenham come up against Virgil van Dijk, while the home team will have to beat Liverpool’s intense pressing game on Saturday to play through the lines. After only three victories in their last nine games in all competitions, this could be another long day at the office for Spurs.

Their visitors, on the other hand, are flying right now. Klopp was able to shuffle his pack and negotiate a tough local derby to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup last weekend, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson all enjoying a full rest. With fresh legs coursing through the squad, despite a packed schedule, the Reds are the 1.71 odds-on favourites for the win here. Tottenham are 4.40, with the draw priced at 4.35.

Recommended Bets

Liverpool to win to nil at 3.15

The away team come into this game on the back of five successive clean sheets in all competitions, while Spurs are without their main source of goals, Kane.

Mo Salah to score first at 5.00

The Egyptian needed less than two minutes to break the deadlock in June’s Champions League final, and also netted the winner from the penalty spot when the teams met in October.
