Tottenham vs. Chelsea Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
20 December 2019
Sunday 22 December
White Hart Lane
Its a case of master vs. apprentice as Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham host Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on Sunday afternoon. Neither will want to lose to their former colleague but the Champions League battle is more important.
The two sides met four times last season, with Chelsea winning twice and one draw, however, it was Tottenham’s solitary win that saw the wheels fall of Maurizio Sarri’s early season form.
Hugo Lloris, Erik Lamela and Ben Davies all remain sidelined through injury, with Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele on the edge of returns. Mourinho appears to have settled on Eric Dier as his holding midfielder, whilst Dele Alli is preffered over Christian Eriksen.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is nearing a return for Chelsea, although Sunday’s game should come too soon for hte midfielder. It remains to be seen whether Lampard sticks with Antonio Rudiger at the back, with the German centre-back not quite looking himself after over half a year out injured.
Tottenham vs. Chelsea Predictions, Preview and Predictions
Following contrasting starts to the season, Tottenham face Chelsea at the right time, with the hosts coming off the back of a tough win at Wolves, and the Blues having lost three of their last four league games.
Mourinho has undoubtedly re-introduced some stability to a Spurs side that at times looked ponderous and indifferent this season. The former Chelsea manager was touted as the man to help Dele Alli rediscover his form, and on the evidence of the past month, has taken significant steps in doing so. They’re 2.35 for a statement win here.
However, the heavy defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich showed that there remain frailties in the squad, and they will have to work hard to avoid being exploited by Chelsea.
Playing the Blues this season must be a nightmare for any coach to prepare for, as Lampard’s side swing rapidly from being hopeless to being unplayable. Of course, it comes as no surprise that Chelsea have at times missed the creativity of Eden Hazard, but a high number of shots per game suggest that their attack has remained strong even during their recent loss of form. It’s 2.90 that Chelsea get back on track, with the draw at 3.65.
The primary concern for Lampard must be his defence, with no reliable option at left-back and his choice of inconsistent centre-backs, the Blues back-line has been torn apart regularly this season. If the visitors are to get anything against Harry Kane and co. this will have to change.
Dele Ali to score anytime at 2.6
The midfielder has always caused problems for Chelsea, with his runs from deep rarely tracked by Jorginho.
Over 3.5 goals at 2.45
The Blues leaky defence and Spurs’ prolific front line should see plenty of goals this weekend.
