Schalke vs. Augsburg Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
21 May 2020
Sunday 24 May
Veltins-Arena - Bundesliga
Schalke and Augsburg continue with their restart from the Bundesliga’s enforced absence when they meet at the Veltins-Arena in Sunday’s early kick-off. The home team must put last weekend’s dreadful derby defeat firmly behind them, while the visitors also need to get out of a rut.
Schalke are unbeaten in their last eight matches against Augsburg, winning four. That includes a dramatic 3-2 victory at the WWK Arena in their first meeting of this season in early November. Augsburg have only ever beaten Die Konigsblauen once in 18 meetings since 2010, losing six of eight at the Veltins-Arena in that period.
Schalke head coach David Wagner is set to be without at least three players for this game. Benjamin Stambouli, Omar Mascarell and Jean-Clair Todibo are all injured, while Ozan Kabak is also a doubt.
Visiting boss Heiko Herrlich also has fitness concerns over four players coming into this weekend’s clash. Fabian Giefer, Julian Schieber, Andre Hahn and Simon Asta are all doubts and facing a race to be fit in time to play.
Schalke vs. Augsburg Preview and Predictions
These two teams have very different goals they’re striving for as the Bundesliga continues its revival from the coronavirus break. Schalke are in contention for a Europa League place, while Augsburg must ensure they aren’t dragged back down into the relegation picture.
Neither side did their chances of success ay favours last weekend. Despite a lack of passionate home support and decent opening half hour or so, Schalke went down 4-0 away to fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Revierderby. That result means Die Knappen are without a win in their last seven Bundesliga matches, losing four while scoring just two goals and conceding 19.
Augsburg are in similarly dire shape, having lost eight of their last 10 Bundesliga fixtures, winning one. Herrlich’s side lost 2-1 at home to Wolfsburg last weekend, and they haven’t won away from home since mid-December, losing each of their five matches since.
This almost looks like a game where you might like to bet on both teams to lose. However, this is a favourable fixture for the home team to restore some confidence, and they are 2.00 to do so by picking up the three points. Augsburg aren’t particularly attractive at 3.75, while the draw’s priced at 3.55.
Schalke to win to nil at 3.35
Augsburg have failed to score in each of their last four away games in the league, so this bet could be a great way to enhance your odds on the home win.
Schalke to win 1-0 at 8.00
Considering Die Konigsblauen’s awful goalscoring record in their recent fixtures, a narrow 1-0 home win could be the way to go if you want to bet on the exact score.
