Real Madrid vs. Celta Vigo Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
14 February 2020
Sunday 16 February
Santiago Bernabeu - La Liga
La Liga leaders Real Madrid are looking to maintain their three-point advantage over Barcelona as they host Celta Vigo at the Bernabeu on Sunday evening. Unless, of course, Barca slip up at home to third-placed Getafe on Saturday, in which case Los Blancos could strengthen their grip on the title race.
Madrid are unbeaten against Celta in La Liga since 2014, winning 10 of the 11 meetings between the teams since. Los Blancos have scored 38 goals in those 10 victories, including their 3-1 triumph at Balaidos earlier this season.
Eden Hazard has resumed full training following an ankle injury, and the Belgian could be in line for a return this weekend. Marco Asensio remains sidelined with a knee injury, while James Rodriguez and Mariano Diaz are doubts.
Celta Vigo will be without their captain for this tough trip to the Spanish capital, after Hugo Mallo received a suspension for picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend. Jeison Murillo is doubtful due to a sprained knee, but David Junca should be fit.
Real Madrid vs. Celta Vigo Preview and Predictions
With such a good record against relegation candidates Celta Vigo, this ought to be a game where Real Madrid enjoy a comfortable victory. Los Blancos lost their last home game though, while Celta recorded an impressive win in their last match, so is there any chance of an upset this weekend?
Vigo will certainly hope to build on their 2-1 victory over Sevilla on Sunday, which lifted them out of the relegation zone. That was a first win in nine for Los Celestes, although Oscar’s side only lost three of their preceding eight, drawing five.
Los Celticos are still the overwhelming underdogs in this game though, priced at 10.25 in the latest odds. Real Madrid are flying high at the summit of La Liga, as they aim to secure their first title since 2017.
Zinedine Zidane watched his team go down 4-3 in their last match at the Bernabeu, as Real exited the Copa del Rey at the hands of Real Sociedad. They showed great character in coming from a goal down to beat Osasuna 4-1 away from home last weekend though.
Even Luka Jovic got on the scoresheet for the first time since October, after coming on as a late substitute for Karim Benzema. The home team are the strong favourites to pick up another three points here at 1.27, while the draw’s priced at 6.05.
Real Madrid to win to nil at 2.15
Celta have averaged less than a goal a game so far this season, while Real have kept a clean sheet in back-to-back home games against Los Celestes.
6+ goals at 6.60
This bet would’ve paid out in two of the last four meetings between these teams, while Madrid’s last home game was a seven-goal thriller.
