Benito Villamarin Stadium
Real Betis are struggling in La Liga this season, and need a good result in the derby against Sevilla to kick-start their season. But Sevilla remain one of the Primera’s most dangerous sides on their day.
These teams emerged even last season in head to head clashes. Betis won the first derby at home 1-0 in September 2018. Sevilla won the return fixture 3-2 in a cracker of a game last April at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Sevilla hope midfield fulcrum Ever Banega will make a full return for the derby. The Argentine midfielder limped off during the 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid last weekend. Banega might be rested for the Europa league game against Dudelange midweek.
Betis meanwhile, have no injury worries in the lead up to the derby. Betis earned a creditable draw against Real Madrid last time out, and will want to build on that in the derby. The other side in Seville doesn’t have any European commitments to deal with, so Rubi’s side will arguably be the fresher of the two.
Real Betis vs Sevilla Preview and Predictions
Real Betis are in need of a victory, they languish in 15th in La Liga and have only won of their last six games. Star signing Nabil Fekir hasn’t had the best of starts to his Betis career, with the former Lyon player earning more yellow cards than goals in his 10 games so far. But when the mood takes him, he can produce sublime moments of skill.
Betis are also struggling to score goals, despite having Fekir, former Real Madrid player Sergio Canales, and old stalwart Joaquin all in the starting line-up. They’ve only managed 14 goals this season, but conceded seven more.
Sevilla’s form isn’t just as inconsistent as Betis’, but they have a habit of making life hard for themselves by losing or drawing matches that seem fairly routine. They’ve had a difficult fixture list as of late, but they’ve drawn against Valencia and Atletico in back-to-back games in La Liga and hope to win away to Betis for the first time since February 2017. They’re 2.15 for the victory, with Betis at 3.50 and the draw the same price.
An away victory at 2.15
Whilst form usually goes out in the window in a derby, Sevilla are infinitely a better side than their city rivals, expect a Sevilla win at 23/20.
Sevilla to score 2 goals or more at 1.95
Betis don’t keep clean sheets, they’ve the joint worst record in the league for goals against. So expect Sevilla to be able to get at Rubi’s men. Sevilla are a good price to score two or more goals.
