Real Betis vs. Atletico Madrid Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Real Betis are starting to hit the expected form in La Liga and should be confident ahead of a meeting with Atletico Madrid this weekend. But Diego Simeone’s men have also turned up the heat and are looking to build on back-to-back 2-0 wins this month.

Past Meetings

Last season, Real Betis won their home game against the Rojiblancos by a narrow 1-0, thanks to a penalty goal by Sergio Canales in the second half. That made sure the two teams continue their current trend of 1-0 wins as one of the two have won by the same score in five of the last eight meetings. During the last six games between the sides, the score has ended with two goals or less, as Angel Correa decided the 1-0 win at home last season for Atleti.

In their last 45 meetings, Betis have won 12 times against 20 wins for Atletico, who have the upper hand also in the league form this year.

Team News

Rubi could have Alfonso Pedraza back at left-back when Simeone’s men come to town, and Sidnei could also be available for the home side. William Carvalho has been out since early October with a muscle injury and would probably need more time to get back to fitness. Juanmi is still out with a foot injury, as the right winger completes the list of absentees for Betis.

Simeone on the other hand, lost Vitolo to a groin injury one week into December, but it shouldn’t be too serious for the left winger. Diego Costa is not expected back until New Year and Stefan Savic is still out with a muscle injury.

Real Betis vs. Atletico Madrid Preview and Predictions

Real Betis coach Rubi has been under a lot of pressure lately, but the recent upturn in the League has seen him breathe at ease again. They are still stuck in bottom half of the table, but after four games unbeaten and a winning streak ending in a 2-2 draw with Espanyol last weekend, the home side fancy their chances against the Rojiblancos and may be backed at 3.90 to win the game.

Simeone’s men haven’t been convincing after going through a lot of changes during the summer, but they are currently on a three-game unbeaten run and arguably close to the league leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid in the league. Currently fifth, one point behind Getafe in La Liga, they are also expected to take place among the top four this season. After the 2-0 win over Osasuna last Sunday, they are expecting to repeat the feat against 12th placed Betis this time and may be backed at 2.05.

Alvaro Morata scored his sixth in 14 games and eight across all tournaments this year, but the need of a goal getter in Diego Costa’s absence is not a hidden secret for Simeone. Even Costa struggled before he got injured and the Rojiblancos need to put together a good run after the winter break if they are to follow their rivals at the top of the League.

Joao Felix won another award this week, being voted the Golden Boy of 2019 and will be looking to show why during the next few months with his new side. The Portuguese starlet is back in action and could be one to watch also during this match.

Atleti haven’t won in seven away games and have drawn five of them so far, and another draw may be backed at 3.40 at the Benito Villamarin, as the recent results between the two sides are not promising us great attacking play from either sides.

Recommended Bets

Total amount of goals Under 1.5 at 3.00

A one goal match could be expected looking at the previous fixtures between the two sides, despite Atletico Madrid breaking the trend going seven games back with a 5-1. Only once since then, both teams have scored during their battle for the points and either side might protect their lead to steal another narrow win.

Atletico Madrid to win to nil at 3.10

The away side has been looking strong at the back recently and have kept a clean sheet during their two last games. Knowing Simeone, he would love to do the same again and then one goal might win them the game at the other end. No rush, but patient and organised in possession, Atletico might grind out a result at a difficult stadium.
