Paris Saint-Germain carry a big lead into the home leg of their Champions League fixture with Barcelona. The hosts famously lost a 5 goal advantage to their Catalan opponents in 2017, and will keen to avoid another slip-up.

Past Meetings

Kylian Mbappe put on a masterclass when the sides last met, scoring a hattrick to turn the game on its head after Lionel Messi opened the scoring with a penalty. Moise Kean also netted for the visitors with the game finishing 4-1.

But there have been famous comebacks in this fixture before – most notably the last time they met in a two-legged tie, in 2017, and Barca had to come from a 4-0 deficit. They did it, even after conceding an away goall, by winning 6-1 on the night and 6-5 on aggregate in a match dubbed La Remontada – the Comeback – by Barca fans.

Team News

Moise Kean has tested positive for COVID-19 potentially ruling the forward out of the clash, although Mauro Icardi is now available for selection. Marco Verratti and Alessandro Florenzi are recent injuries, whilst Neymar and Angel Di Maria remain longer term abstentees.

Ronaldo Koeman has enjoyed success with a three-man defence in recent weeks and may well try this formation against the French champions.. Philippe Coutinho, Ansu Fati and Sergi Roberto are sidelined through long-term injuries whilst Gerard Pique is ruled out yet again following a mid-week injury.

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Barcelona Preview and Predictions

Barcelona look for their second remontada in a week as they travel to PSG in the Champions League. The Blaugrana need a three-goal turn-around to progress to the quarter-finals but are the come-back masters having scored three against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.

With respect to the Rojiblancos, PSG are a very different calibre of opponents, even with Neymar on the sidelines. Mauricio Pochettino’s side displayed a level of attacking play that Barcelona were simply unable to cope with in the reverse fixture and Spin Sports online football betting has them as heavy favourites to win again on the night at 2.10

The French side have now lost just one of their past eight games, winning the remainder and keeping pace with Ligue 1 leaders Lille. The Champions League has long been the priority for PSG, with last season’s defeat in the final particularly dissapointing – ending their Barcelona jinx on Wednesday may well be seen as a big step towards victory this year.

The reverse fixture has put Barcelona at a near irreplicable disadvantage, even with an in-form Lionel Messi on the pitch. Koeman’s side have shown that they are more than just a platform for their captain however, with an impressive team display at Sevilla. The visitors are 2.87 to win on the night, but they need to score at least four times to do it. A draw after 90 minutes – which might save some face – is 4.20.

Recommended Bets

Over 3.5 goals at 2.15

There were five goals when they met last month, four goals in the first metting four years ago and seven in the one that followed. PSG are a better team now than then and Barca a weaker one so even if the comeback isn’t on, there still should be goals.

Both teams to score at 1.44

Barcelona were at the mercy of Mbappe in the reverse fixture but should offer a decent attacking threat themselves.
