Newcastle vs. Tottenham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
14 October 2021
St James’ Park – Premier League
Newcastle United’s new ownership era kicks off this weekend with Steve Bruce’s side playing host to Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park. The Magpies were sold to the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) last week by former owner Mike Ashley.
The two Premier League games between these two sides both ended in draws last season, with Newcastle not winning at home against Spurs since 2016. Follow the Spin Sports blog to see if Bruce can enjoy a positive start under the new owners as we delve deeper into the online football betting.
If he’s still in a job, Bruce is expected to be boosted by some key returns from injury this weekend with Callum Wilson and Jamal Lascelles both back in training. However, Joe Willock and Martin Dúbravka are both still at least another week away from a first team comeback.
Spurs boss Nuno Espírito Santo has Welsh international Ben Davies back in contention in his only injury update ahead of the trip to Tyneside, but he could rotate elsewhere in his team with Matt Doherty and Dele Alli pushing for a recall.
Newcastle vs. Tottenham Preview and Predictions
Newcastle have found themselves at the centre of the footballing universe in the last week following their high-profile buyout. However, despite the huge attention off the pitch, they remain winless in 2021-22, with Bruce’s position under growing threat in the coming days and weeks.
Spurs have endured their own stumble in Premier League action in recent weeks, after making a positive start to the season in August. However, Nuno’s side did head off on international duty on the back of a morale-boosting win over Aston Villa last time out.
Despite no wins so far in 2021-22, the huge focus on St James’ Park should galvanise the hosts against an inconsistent Spurs team, with a draw coming in at a price of 3.50. With Harry Kane yet to score in Premier League action so far this season, Son Heung-min has stepped up as Tottenham’s key threat with three goals, plus two in his last four starts against the Magpies.
A 1-1 draw at 8.00
A draw will do little for either manager in what has been a difficult start to the season for both Bruce and Nuno. Bruce’s position is likely to have already been decided, regardless of the result in this game, with Nuno also under pressure after a mixed run of results in the last month.
Both teams to score at 1.71
Despite their struggles so far in 2021-22, Newcastle have averaged a decent return of goals in the opening weeks of the campaign with eight goals in seven games. However, they are also yet to keep a clean sheet this season, with Spurs netting six goals in seven league games this term.
