Two of the giants of African football come together on the second day of this AFCON tournament as Morocco face Ghana at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde. There are some big players in both squads, but there is also a lot of pressure to do well from two expectant fan bases back home as we look ahead to the mobile online betting for this fixture.

Past Meetings

Ghana have enjoyed the majority of the meetings between these two in recent times, but it was Morocco who were victorious in a friendly in Rabat last year. They also met at the same stage at the 2008 AFCON – held in Ghana – where the host nation won 2-0 and progressed from the group as winners. Both sides will be keenly aware of how important a win in the first game can be.

Team News

The big news from Morocco is that Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech was omitted from the squad as his feud with coach Vahid Halilhodžić continues. The Bosnian accused the Premier League star of feigning injury to avoid playing in a friendly, but will still have some top-class players at his disposal. Much will be expected of Achraf Hakimi, although the squad also has a number of excellent young prospects eager to show their talents.

Ghana are still chasing an elusive fifth AFCON triumph, after last lifting the trophy way back in 1982. The Black Stars crashed out of the last tournament in the round of 16 to Tunisia and Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac has brought in a lot of youngsters to freshen up the squad. Roma starlet Felix Afena-Gyan misses out, but the likes of Thomas Partey and André Ayew will be crucial to any chance of success.

Morocco vs. Ghana Preview and Predictions

Morocco are not as fancied to win the tournament as their North African counterparts Egypt and Algeria, but will want to erase the memory of being knocked out by minnows Benin in the round of 16 last time. PSG’s Achraf Hakimi will be looked to as an inspirational figure, but this is a squad that has a deep level of talent throughout.

Morocco have not lost a competitive game in normal time since the World Cup in Russia in 2018 and will be keen to stamp their authority on a group that should see these two sides progress. Ghana have a number of exciting young players emerging in some of the top leagues in Europe at the moment though and will be equally confident of topping this group and announcing themselves at AFCON 2021.

Oddsmakers aren’t quite as confident of Ghana taking three points from this opening game though – offering 3.40 for a Black Stars win. Morocco are the clear favourites at 2.00, but the draw might be of some interest at 2.90.

Recommended Bets

The draw at 2.90

There will be a lot of pressure on both sides to live up to expectations and achievements at former tournaments. But with two weaker teams to play after this one, a draw would not be the worst result for Morocco or Ghana.

Both teams to score at 2.15

There may not be many goals in this opening game of Group C, but neither team will want to be left behind as they look to progress from the opening phase. If one side scores, expect the other to find the net too.
