Milan vs. Sampdoria Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

AC Milan and Sampdoria return from Serie A’s winter break with a clash at the San Siro on Monday afternoon. The hosts begin the new year in the bottom half of the table, while the visitors are only a point above the relegation zone.

Past Meetings

Gregoire Defrel scored inside the first minute as Sampdoria won 1-0 the last time these clubs met, at the end of March last season. Milan won three in a row before that, including two home victories in Serie A and one away in the Coppa Italia.

Team News

Brazilian centre-back Leo Duarte remains sidelined with an ankle injury that’s set to keep him out until April, which has led to Milan being strongly linked with Barcelona’s 20-year-old Frenchman, Jean-Clair Todibo. Apart from that though, the home team have no other injuries or suspensions.

Sampdoria meanwhile are plagued by both. Gianluca Caprari is suspended after being sent off for a second yellow card in injury time of his team’s defeat to Juventus in the last match before the break. Fabio Depaoli is out for another couple of weeks, while Albin Ekdal, Alex Ferrari, Andrea Bertolacci and Edgar Barreto are all doubts.

Milan vs. Sampdoria Preview and Predictions

Neither of these two teams begin 2020 in positions they want to be in. Milan ended last year with a demoralising 5-0 defeat at the hands of Atalanta to condemn them to 11th in the Serie A table, while Sampdoria suffered four defeats in five games in all competitions to close out 2019.

Stefano Pioli has a big job on his hands as he bids to resurrect the sleeping giant that is Milan. The Rossoneri have only managed to win six of their 17 Serie A fixtures so far this season, with eight draws severely hampering their efforts to move up the table.

There may be some new faces on their way to the San Siro this month, but probably not in time to feature in this game. Even so, the home team start as the odds-on favourites in the betting, priced at 1.58.

Sampdoria meanwhile are available at 6.20, as they look to repeat their victory over Milan on this ground from February 2017. The Blucerchiati have shown some improvements over the last couple of months, only losing four of their last 10 Serie A games after losing six of their first seven this term. With that in mind, a draw could be worth a look at 3.95.

Recommended Bets

Milan to win and BTTS at 3.25

The Rossoneri are the favourites for the win, but Sampdoria will fancy their chances of at least getting on the scoresheet after their hosts shipped five goals last time out.

Sampdoria to win 1-0 at 17.25

Samp’s last victory over Milan at the San Siro came courtesy of a 1-0 victory almost three years ago, while this was also the scoreline as the Blucerchiati won the last meeting between the clubs.
