Milan vs. Genoa Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
28 February 2020
Sunday 1 March
San Siro - Serie A
Milan are looking to extend their excellent record against Genoa when these two teams clash at the San Siro in Serie A’s Sunday lunchtime kick-off. The game will be played behind closed doors though, due to the spread of coronavirus across northern Italy.
Milan are unbeaten in their last six matches against Genoa, winning five. That includes each of the last four, with the Rossoneri coming from behind to win 2-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in October. Il Grifone last beat Milan back in 2016, while their last victory at the San Siro came the year before.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is a doubt for this game after a sprained ankle forced Milan’s goalkeeper off in the draw at Fiorentina on Saturday. Asmir Begovic came off the bench to replace him, and could get his first start for the Rossoneri here. Lucas Biglia is also a doubt with a knee injury, while Leo Duarte, Rade Krunic and Simon Kjaer are all out.
Midfielder Ivan Radovanovic will miss the rest of the season for Genoa after rupturing a ligament in his knee against Bologna a couple of weeks ago. He joins Paolo Ghiglione on the treatment table, with Lukas Lerager and Marko Pajac also racing to be fit in time to play in this fixture.
Milan vs. Genoa Preview and Predictions
There’s going to be an eerie atmosphere inside the San Siro this weekend. It remains to be seen how this affects the contest, but both sets of players must concentrate on the job in hand as they strive for their goals at either end of the Serie A table.
Milan have enjoyed a resurgence since the end of November, only losing two of their last 16 fixtures in all competitions, away to top-four sides Atalanta and Inter. Stefano Pioli must receive huge credit for that after taking up the reigns in early October, and leading his team up to seventh in the table.
Il Diavolo are level on points with sixth-placed Napoli, and eyeing a return to European football next season. Genoa, on the other hand, are merely aiming to prolong their stay in Italy’s top flight. The Rossoblu head into this weekend’s fixture in the relegation zone, and a defeat could leave them four points from safety.
Despite their own struggles, Milan have maintained a superb record against Davide Nicola’s side in recent seasons. They are the favourites to pick up another win against Il Grifone on Sunday, priced at 1.68 in the latest betting odds.
Genoa did beat Milan four times in five attempts between 2014 and 2016, and they are 5.50 to boost their hopes of survival with a win. The draw is available at 3.70.
Milan to win by one goal at 3.30
The home team are the favourites for the win, and this bet would’ve paid out in six of Milan’s last seven victories over Genoa.
Milan to win 2-1 at 9.00
Four of those seven Milan wins have finished 2-1 to the Rossoneri, so this bet could be worth a look if you want to predict the correct score in Sunday’s game.
