Manchester United vs. Manchester City Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
06 March 2020
The fourth Manchester derby of the season will be played at Old Trafford on Sunday, with United desperate to help their chase for the fourth place. City arrive as newly crowned League Cup holders and United might take advantage of the fact that the Citizens are more focused on the cup competitions than their chase in the League.
Already the fourth derby this term and the Red Devils have the upper hand after the first three this term. United won 1-0 in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final, but the 3-1 win at Old Trafford made sure that City went through to the Final, they then won 2-1 against Aston Villa to lift the trophy. Manchester United also picked up the three points at stake in December, when they won 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium after two goals by Marcus Rashford. The game has been spectacular in recent years and they are continuing to share the great experiences of winning the open tie.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has struggled with a host of absentees and is hoping to have Marcus Rashford available soon, but the England international could be out for a while still. Paul Pogba har ankle problems and it’s unsure when he could play again, whilst the rest of the squad seems to have recovered.
Pep Guardiola shouldn’t have any concerns after a busy schedule but were scared of losing Sergio Agüero again after the EFL Cup Final against Aston Villa. The Argentine had to come off, but the Spanish coach said he was fine for the FA Cup game against Sheffield Wednesday and should be fit to play against United this weekend.
Manchester United vs. Manchester City Preview and Predictions
Manchester United are currently fighting Chelsea for the fourth place in the Premier League, but there are also a few other sides who could get back involved during the run-in. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men could make a statement against Manchester City and pick up their third win in four games against Guardiola’s men, which may be backed at 5.05.
Their last draw came eight games ago, when the match ended in a goalless stalemate in April 2017. If you think the two Manchester giants will share the points again this Sunday, it may be backed at 4.35 and ensure that both sets of fans goes home without defeat. The City win meanwhile is 1.64.
United sit three points behind Chelsea in the League and are on a run of four games without defeat, but they were close against Everton last time. Saved by a VAR decision and some good saves made by David de Gea, the Reds would prize themselves lucky to have left Goodison Park with a point.
De Gea has still been under hard weather of late, because of a high-profile error when Dominic Calvert-Lewin blocked his clearance and the ball ended up in the net. But that fluke goal was the only that the Spanish goalkeeper has conceded in the last four Premier League games.
An unconvincing 2-0 win against Chelsea with a host was followed by a more impressing 3-0 win against Watford at home, but the 1-1 game against Everton showed that there’s still room for improvement.
And Man City arrive across the city with confidence after securing the first trophy of the season last weekend. They have won back-to-back League matches, following a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham. Despite not looking as impressive as previous seasons, they have three clean sheets and three wins in their last four matches.
It will be a thrilling game at Old Trafford with more at stake for the home side, can they edge it also this time?
Both teams to score & Over 2.5 at 2.05
Both sides will be going for goal when they attack, as the pride of Manchester is at stake on Sunday and Manchester United’s great strength on the counters would provide them the opportunity against a possession-based Guardiola side. If both teams will score and we should still get a winner, then it has to go over 2.5 goals.
Anthony Martial to score at anytime at 3.25
The French forward has hit form of late and has stepped up in Marcus Rashford’s absence. He has scored 10 goals in 22 league games but has also contributed five in the cup competitions. He should start against the Citizens and could get a goal in the third consecutive Premier League game.
