Manchester City vs. West Ham Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
25 November 2021
Etihad Stadium – Premier League
Manchester City resume their chase of Premier League leaders Chelsea when they host high-flying West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. It’s a real test of the Hammers’ top-four credentials, but it may require some bravery to back the visitors in the football betting online.
West Ham ended City’s four-year League Cup reign on penalties after a goalless draw at the London Stadium last month. The Blues won last season’s corresponding Premier League fixture at the Etihad 2-1, following a 1-1 draw in the capital. That stalemate ended City’s nine-game winning run against the Hammers in all competitions.
Both managers are likely to tweak their starting line-ups following midweek European commitments, although Pep Guardiola has an extra day to prepare his team following Wednesday’s home game against Paris Saint-Germain. The City boss is set to be without at least four players for this game, with Kevin De Bruyne, Ferran Torres and Liam Delap injured, and Benjamin Mendy still awaiting trial.
David Moyes’ preparations for this tough trip to Manchester are severely hampered by his team’s trip to Rapid Vienna on Thursday. However, the Irons manager only has one injury absentee at present. Angelo Ogbonna is out for the long term due to a serious knee injury, and is unlikely to feature again this season.
Manchester City vs. West Ham Preview and Predictions
Manchester City have a superb record against West Ham United over recent years, and the Blues will expect to keep that intact this weekend. The Hammers have made a brilliant start to the season though, and stand as good a chance as they’ve had to end their winless run against City in the league.
The Citizens are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League meetings with West Ham, winning nine. The Blues have scored 27 goals across those 11 victories, at an average of exactly three per game, while conceding only four at the other end.
That said, a strong City side were unable to break down West Ham in the cup last month, with the Hammers coming into this game only three points behind their hosts after 12 games of the Premier League season.
Had it not been for their narrow 1-0 loss away to Wolves last weekend, the Hammers could’ve been level on points with the second-placed defending champions with nearly a third of the campaign gone. Moyes has done a superb job with this West Ham squad, who’ve won seven times this season and are 8.75 to end their winless run against City this weekend.
Guardiola’s side are the heavy favourites at 1.29 though, as they go in search of their sixth straight home win against the Hammers. City may have lost at home to Crystal Palace at the end of last month, but even a draw in this game would be a surprise at 5.75.
Man City to win and BTTS at 2.70
The home team should pick up all three points, but West Ham are having a great season and with Michail Antonio in fine form, will fancy their chances of scoring away to City as they did last term.
Man City to win 2-1 at 9.25
This game looks set to be closer than many of the meetings between these clubs over recent years, with City priced at 3.80 to beat a much improved West Ham side by only one goal.
