Opel Arena – Bundesliga
Inconsistent Mainz host Borussia Dortmund in what could be described as the Jurgen Klopp derby Mainz have done well as of late, but lost their last match to Augsburg. Dortmund are also a mixed-bag in the Bundesliga, having lost two and won two of their last 4 games.
Dortmund won this corresponding fixture last year, winning 2-1 at the Opel Arena in November 2018. Mainz haven’t beaten Dortmund at home since September 2014.
Mainz have no new injury worries. Phillipp Mwene, Aaron Seydel, Dong-won Ji are all still unavailable. Centre-backs Jeremiah St. Juste and central midfielder Pierre Kunde Malong are close to picking up suspensions.
Dortmund meanwhile Axel Witsel and Marcel Schmelzer through injury. Whilst Thomas delaney is still out with torn ankle ligament damage.
Mainz vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview and Predictions
Mainz have cobbled together a few wins as of lately after a bad start to the season, lifting them just above the relegation places in the Bundesliga. However, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 games, including an 8-0 defeat to RB Leipizig. Form such as that sees the hosts out to 5.00 for the victory, with the draw at 4.35.
Borussia Dortmund by contrast have lost only two games in the league, and secured victory to the last 16 of the Champions League with a win over Slavia Prague. They will want to keep the pace up with Borussia Munchengladbach at the top of the Bundesliga, who are five points clear. Dortmund go into the game at 1.64 to get a valuable three poins.
Over 3.5 goals at 2.15
There could be goals in this game. Mainz don’t keep clean sheets and Dortmund have been free-scoring as of late. Over 3.5 goals scored could be a wise bet.
Jadon Sancho to score first at 5.00
The English midfielder scored his first Champions League goal for Dortmund as a starter in the 2-1 win over Slavia Prague. He is good odds to repeat the trick against Mainz.
