Liverpool vs. Manchester United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Sunday 19 January
Anfield - Premier League
The big games keep on coming for Premier League champions-elect Liverpool, who host fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday. With such a commanding lead at the top of the table, Liverpool’s season has turned into a quest to go the whole campaign unbeaten.
The last two games between these teams have ended in draws, including a 1-1 at Old Trafford earlier this season when an 85th-minute equaliser from Adam Lallana preserved the away team’s unbeaten record. Liverpool beat United 3-1 at Anfield last term, in what proved to be Jose Mourinho’s final game in charge of the Red Devils.
The home team’s defence could be boosted by the return of Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, while influential midfielder Fabinho is also approaching full fitness following an ankle injury. James Milner, Naby Keita and Nathaniel Clyne all remain on the sidelines though.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to be without central midfielders Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba, although Eric Bailly could be in contention for a return from a long-term knee injury. Luke Shaw is expected to miss out with a hamstring problem, although Jesse Lingard could be back following an illness.
Liverpool vs. Manchester United Preview and Predictions
Manchester United are looking for their first victory at Anfield in four years this weekend, although two of the last three matches between the teams at the ground since then have ended all square. The visitors would probably snap your hand off if offered a point prior to kick-off though, with Liverpool in superb form at present.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won all 12 of their Premier League fixtures since their draw at Old Trafford in October, scoring 29 goals in the process. As if that wasn’t ominous enough both for United and the rest of the division, the Reds have also sorted out their defensive issues. Despite injuries at the back, they come into this match on the back of six successive clean sheets, after only managing two in their first 15 league games this term.
Their imperious recent form over recent months means Liverpool start this game as the huge favourites in the betting, priced at 1.40. United meanwhile are available at 7.75, as they look for a big result to boost their confidence.
The Red Devils eased to a comfortable 4-0 victory over bottom club Norwich City on Saturday, but that was their first victory of 2020 at their fourth attempt. An FA Cup replay against Wolves on Wednesday is hardly the ideal preparation for this tough trip to Merseyside, especially with their hosts enjoying a full week of rest and preparation. All things considered, even the draw appears unlikely for United at 4.80.
Liverpool to win to nil at 2.30
Excluding their League Cup defeat against Aston Villa when they were forced to play a youth team, Liverpool have only conceded one goal in their last 10 games, while United have drawn a blank in their last two away from home.
Liverpool to win 3-0 at 10.50
Klopp’s side scored three times in beating United at Anfield last season, while this scoreline would reflect the gulf in class between these two teams.
