FC Koln vs. Fortuna Dusseldorf Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
21 May 2020
Sunday 24 May
RhineEngergieStadion – Bundesliga
Dusseldorf will be hoping for their first win in five games on Sunday, but are likely to struggle against hosts FC Koln. They did though win the first meeting of the sides earlier in the season.
Dusseldorf won by two goals to nil when the two sides met for the first time in six years, as a Rouwen Hennings tucked away a penalty before Erik Thommy added a second.
Jhon Cordoba will continue up front having missed previous games through suspension, Dominick Drexler will hope to reclaim his starting place on the flank having missed out to Jan Thielmann last weekend.
There has been no news on the return of Dusseldorf captain Oliver Fink who missed last week’s return for personal reasons. Dawid Kownacki, Bernard Tekpetey and Zack Steffen are all expected to remain on the side-lines through injury, whilst Zach Steffen is yet to return following a knee injury.
FC Koln vs. Fortuna Dusseldorf Predictions, Preview and Predictions
FC Koln host Fortuna on Sunday, looking to rise up through a congested middle of the Bundesliga table. Just 10 points separate the home side from their visitors, in 16th place, whilst Markus Gidsol will be keen to have his team looking up rather than down the table, as his side just six points off sixth place.
Fortuna’s Uwe Rosler would have been hoping to drag his side to survival, having taken over from February, however, his side’s first game back following the Bundesliga’s suspension ended in a disappointing draw to bottom side Padeborn. Given that Fortuna have managed just five wins so far in the league, a home game against the worst side in the league was a golden opportunity.
An inability to score goals has been the Northern Rhine club’s primary issue this campaign and with the players having missed several months of training, this is unlikely to improve. For all their early-season struggles defensively, Saturday’s hosts Koln have looked sound at the back, with games against the Bundesliga’s prolific top two excluded. The home side are 1.80 to win this one.
Gidsol has revolutionised his team’s attacking play by bringing in Marc Uth in January, the German forward having made nine goal contributions in just eight games. The centre-forward marked his return last week with yet another goal and appears to bring the best out of his teammates.
However, Koln looked off the pace last week, as they drew to relegation-threatened Mainz, showing that hope is far from lost for Dusseldorf come Sunday. The visitors are 4.20 for the win, with the draw at 4.10.
Koln to score first at 1.52
Koln have been free-scoring of late, and will be full of confidence at home on Sunday.
Koln to win to nil at 3.20
Dusseldorf are the lowest scoring side in the league, and are unlikely to break Koln down.
