Inter vs. Cagliari Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
23 January 2020
Sunday 26 January
San Siro – Serie A
Inter have slipped up lately and given Juventus the chance to pull away at the top but face a Cagliari who are struggling to keep up their impressive form. The Nerazzurri need to get back on track after a few problems in the new year, whilst their visitors are desperate to make a statement and get revenge from the Coppa Italia defeat against Antonio Conte’s men.
Earlier this month, the two teams met at the San Siro in the Italian cup and it ended badly for the Sardinians. Cagliari were at the end of a 4-1 defeat and felt the wrath of a hot Romelu Lukaku dominating the fixture as an excited Alexis Sanchez was back on the pitch for Inter. In the reverse fixture this year, Cagliari were at the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat at the Sardegna Arena as well and their record against the Nerazzurri is nothing to speak highly of. They did beat them at home last season, but that was the only one in the last seven outings.
In 45 attempts at the Giuseppe Meazza, Cagliari have only won three times and will have to dig deep to cause an upset also this time, as Inter are in a great shape.
The injury list shrunk during the winter break, but Antonio Conte received some bad news after the game against Lecce. Marcelo Brozovic has suffered a distortion of the left ankle and might not be back until the Milan derby on February 9 next month. Roberto Gagliardini is also out with a bruised foot and Danilo D’Ambrosio and Kwadwo Asamoah are still suffering. The new boys, Victor Moses and Ashley Young might be introduced for the Inter faithful this weekend, though, as Conte has plenty of cover for his injured players.
Lucas Castro has been struggling with setback after setback and will be missing with a muscular problem also this weekend. Rolando Maran will be without suspended Fabio Pisacane, adding to the defensive problems he already has with Federico Mattiello, Fabrizio Cacciatore and Luca Ceppitelli out injured.
Inter vs. Cagliari Preview and Predictions
Inter were convincing the last time they faced Cagliari but drew their second league match in a row when they visited the Via del Mare last weekend. Lecce kept the title contenders to a 1-1 draw, the same as Atalanta ahead of the 4-1 win against Cagliari.
The Rossoblu will not be very confident ahead of the match against the Nerazzurri, as they haven’t won in seven outings and their last success came against Sampdoria on December 5. Inter may be backed at 1.32 to win the game, as Cagliari have lost four of their last six league matches.
And with a problematic injury list for the Rossoblu, Inter should have recovered from their latest slip against Lecce and be desperate to bounce back immediately and put Juventus under pressure again. Cagliari are slipping further and further away from the top four and are now only two points above Parma at seventh in the League, in danger of losing out of the European places also this term.
If you think they can hold Inter to a draw at the Giuseppe Meazza, they may be backed at 5.40 for a stalemate, whilst they stand at 10.00 times your money to win the game in Milan.
Joao Pedro took his tally to 13 in 20 Serie A games with a brace against Brescia last time and he will have to be on top form to match the Inter forwards. Romelu Lukaku has been scoring for fun this term and this could be another high scoring match.
Cagliari know they must attack to get something, but Inter are lethal at the other end and another game with end to end action could lead to an entertaining Sunday night.
Total goals Over 3.5 at 2.40
The last time the two met, Cagliari were unusually sloppy at the back, but Inter also presented their most efficient game. Both teams would probably have to get on the scoresheet for the match to reach four goals also this time, but with goalscorers on both teams and a desperate Cagliari, trying to prove the first half was not a fluke, will be attacking with force.
Inter to score Over 2.5 goals at 2.20
Inter duo Lautaro Martinez and Lukaku have provided 24 goals between them in Serie A this term and could be joined by Alexis Sanchez on this side of the year and they might have to score three to get a win against the Rossoblu.
