Freiburg vs. Werder Bremen Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Werder Bremen are slipping closer to relegation as they go to Europa League-chasing Freiburg this weekend. Freiburg dropped crucial points against RB Leipzig last weekend, while Werder were heavily beaten at home to Bayer Leverkusen.

Past Meetings

There has been little between these two sides in recent meetings, three draws and a win in each from their last five games.

The game earlier in the season ended in a 2-2 draw after Nils Petersen scored a late equaliser, while Freiburg’s last win over Werder came in February 2018.

Team News

Freiburg’s only injury concern is over defender Lukas Kublar, with midfielder Roland Sallai expected to shake off a minor knock.

Werder Bremen will be without veteran striker Claudio Pizarro and Niklas Fullkrug, but midfielder Kevin Mohwald should be fit to return.

Freiburg vs. Werder Bremen Preview and Predictions

Freiburg’s push for Europe was dented on their return to domestic action by a late 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig. Christian Streich’s side are still in the running for a sixth-place finish, but they need to get points on the board in the coming weeks.

Werder Bremen’s relegation looks sealed, and a 4-1 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen on their return has only deepened their problems. Florian Kohfeldt’s side look set to run out the clock on their top-flight stay, with little time left to save them from the drop.

A win for Freiburg keeps them in the hunt for Europe, and they look well placed to do so, priced at 2.20. The hosts are not the most prolific goal scorers, with eight goals in nine league games in 2020, and that is likely to continue this weekend.

Streich’s side come in at 5.5 to win, but with under 2.5 total goals scored in the game.

Recommended Bets

Freiburg to win 1-0 at 10.5

This game is unlikely to be a brilliant spectacle for neutral Bundesliga watchers, but Freiburg should have enough to nudge Werder Bremen closer to the second tier.

Nils Petersen to score first at 5.00

Veteran forward Petersen is Freiburg’s top scorer this season, with eight league goals, and despite their issues in attack, he still looks to be their best goal source.
