Chelsea vs. West Ham, Betting Tips and Previews
West Ham are in a very dangerous position and must turn things around, but they are presented with a stern test against local rivals Chelsea this weekend. The situation is getting serious for Manuel Pellegrini, who is struggling to find a solution at the London Stadium this season and the run is only getting worse for the Irons.
In the last five meetings Chelsea are leading the head-to-head by one win with a 2-2-1 record and will be looking to build on the 2-0 win from April 2019, when Eden Hazard’s brace sent the Hammers comfortably beaten back across the city. The two games prior to the Chelsea win this year, both ended in a draw and West Ham will fancy their chances to get one over their local rivals. In this London derby Chelsea have won 41 times in 98 meetings, whilst West Ham are on 36 wins and 21 of the games have ended in a draw. Only two of the five latest meetings between the two have ended with both teams scoring.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is hoping to have England international Callum Hudson-Odoi back after in contention as the younster suffered from a setback on his return from injury. He pulled his hamstring, but should be able to return this weekend. On the other hand, they will most likely have to go on without Pedro Rodriguez and Ross Barkley. Antonio Rudiger is still out with a long term groin injury.
West Ham shouldn’t have too many problems towards the match against Chelsea, when they are currently only waiting on Lukasz Fabianski, who is not expected to return before January after suffering a hip injury at the end of September. Winston Reid is struggling with a knee injury and Jack Wilshere has got trouble in his groin, but they are not ruled completely out against the Blues. Right-back Ryan Fredericks will have to be on his best behaviour though, as he is one yellow card away from a one-match ban.
Chelsea vs. West Ham Preview and Predictions
Chelsea are still top four in the Premier League this season, despite losing to the reigning champions last weekend, and Frank Lampard’s young side has really impressed going forward this season. On the other hand, they haven’t really shut down shop at their own end and have a habit of giving their opponent a look at goal. Two weekends ago, they beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at home in another London derby, but that was the only clean sheet in a run of six games.
The home side ban be backed at 1.28 to win against the Irons this weekend, whilst they are 2.30 to win to nil. West Ham are looking to turn their season around and may be backed at 10.00 to win over the Blues away from home, which would be their first away win since they beat Newport County in the Carabao Cup on August 27 this term. Since then, they’ve gone on a winless run of five games away from home, including a 4-0 defeat to Oxford United in the same competition.
In the Premier League, West Ham are looking for their first win since they beat Manchester United on September 22 and manager Manuel Pellegrini admitted that they are feeling the pressure, but claimed that the players have to respond as much as he does.
West Ham are dangerously close to the relegation zone, only three points above Norwich City on the 18th place in the Premier League, but they are entering a tough time of the year with some very hard games leading up to Christmas. There will be bigger opportunities to get the points for the Claret and Blue, but Pellegrini doens’t have too much time to turn the tide and will have a go at high-flying Chelsea.
Lampard’s team is looking strong going forward and Tammy Abraham seemed like he wouldn’t stop scoring this season, but have yet to get back on the score sheet after the international break and would most likely love to get back on track at home against an old rival.
Chelsea to win and both teams to score at 2.35
Chelsea have been struggling to keep a clean sheet lately and West Ham will have to go all-in against their rivals at the Bridge this weekend. It’s difficult to see how the Hammers would claim the three points, but they might even score first against the Blues.
Tammy Abraham to score the first goal at 3.20
The England international has scored 10 times in the Premier League and will be itching to get back on track after the international break. He wasn’t on target when they visited Manchester City last weekend, but will most likely get another opportunity at home against the Irons.
