Caretaker Manchester United boss Michael Carrick takes charge of his first Premier League game this weekend as the Red Devils head to league leaders Chelsea. United have confirmed their intention to keep Carrick in charge on a temporary basis before appointing an interim manager until the end of 2021-22 and you can check the latest football betting online for the next United boss with Spin Sports.

Past Meetings

These two sides have shared some entertaining battles over the years, but played out a pair of 0-0 draws in Premier League action last season. United have a very strong Premier League record against the Blues prior to that, with an unbeaten run of five games stretching back to 2017.

Team News

Tuchel is expected to be boosted by positive fitness news on midfield pair Jorginho and Kai Havertz ahead of the visit of United this weekend. Belgian star Romelu Lukaku will be a late injury call against his former team but Mateo Kovačić is still sidelined through injury, while N'Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell are doubts after picking up knee injuries in midweek.

Carrick is without captain Harry Maguire through suspension, with Paul Pogba and Raphaël Varane still out of action. Edinson Cavani is a further doubt for United, while Mason Greenwood misses out after testing positive for Covid-19. Luke Shaw is rated as 50/50 after picking up a second head injury of the month last weekend.

Chelsea vs. Manchester United Preview and Predictions

Tuchel has masterminded a fantastic start to the season at Stamford Bridge, with the European champions currently top of the Premier League table. The Blues go into this game on the back of a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions, with just one league defeat so far in 2021-22.

United’s winless streak in domestic action cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job, with their 4-1 defeat away at Watford last weekend proving to be the final straw for the former striker. One win in their last seven Premier League games undermined confidence in the Norwegian boss, with Carrick set to take charge on a short-term basis.

With United in free fall in the Premier League, Tuchel will be confident of extending their misery at Stamford Bridge this weekend, with a home win coming in at a price of 1.55. With Lukaku missing the last month of action for Chelsea, Tuchel has looked elsewhere in his squad for regular goals, with Havertz netting two in his last five starts in all competitions.

Recommended Bets

Chelsea to win 2-1 at 8.00

Chelsea should have enough to see off United, despite the expected positivity of Carrick replacing Solskjaer. However, United will not make it easy for them and the hosts will need to be patient to ensure they collect all three points in this one.

Both teams to score at 1.83

Despite the negativity over Solskjaer’s final weeks in charge at United, his side have remained a consistent goalscoring threat, with five goals in their last five games across domestic and European action.
