The big games are coming thick and fast as Project Restart continues apace, with Chelsea hosting Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night. The home team’s top four chances received a real boost over the weekend, while the visitors are merely playing to prolong their reign as champions.

Past Meetings

City have won the last two Premier League meetings between the teams. They were both in Manchester and included a 6-0 drubbing in February of last year, while the Citizens also beat Chelsea in a League Cup final penalty shootout in between those games. Chelsea won the last meeting at Stamford Bridge between the teams 2-0, while City won three in a row before that, including a 2-0 success in the Community Shield in 2018.

Team News

Callum Hudson-Odoi is a doubt for this one, as the teenager continues his recovery from an ankle injury he picked up soon after returning to training. Fikayo Tomori also misses out, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek is available after completing his comeback from a long-term Achilles injury with a start against Aston Villa last weekend.

The head injury picked up by Eric Garcia’s in City’s victory over Arsenal last week wasn’t as bad as first feared, but the young defender won’t feature here due to concussion protocols. Pep Guardiola could also be without John Stones at the back, as well as back-up goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Chelsea vs. Manchester City Preview and Predictions

This is a much bigger game for Chelsea than Manchester City in terms of this season’s goals, but that doesn’t mean the visitors will be taking things easy. The Blues of Manchester are possibly the worst team to play against without home support, which Chelsea will be without on Thursday night.

An empty Stamford Bridge only helps City in their quest for three more points to temporarily delay Liverpool’s title confirmation, with Guardiola’s side the 1.83 favourites for the win. The Citizens look like they are going to finish second quite comfortably, as they prepare for a tilt at the newly formatted Champions League once the domestic season comes to an end.

Chelsea, on the other hand, must keep picking up points if they’re to finish in the top four. Frank Lampard’s team enjoyed a great weekend as they came from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1, with top-four rivals Manchester United, Leicester City and Sheffield United all dropping points, as well as Tottenham and Arsenal.

The Blues from West London have a five-point advantage over Man United and Wolves, but they’ve often been at a severe disadvantage in their clashes with City in recent seasons. Chelsea may have won the last meeting between the teams at Stamford Bridge, but they are the 4.05 underdogs here, with the draw priced at 4.00.

Recommended Bets

Man City to win to nil at 3.15

City have won six of the last seven meetings between the teams, keeping a clean sheet in five of those six victories. With no fans inside the stadium, this could be like another training session for the Citizens.

City to win 2-0 at 10.50

Guardiola’s side have scored 12 goals in those six wins, at an average of exactly two per game, conceding only one at the other end. This bet could make a lot of sense then if you want to predict the correct scoreline.
