Wednesday 4 December

Stamford Bridge – Premier League

Frank Lampard’s young, swashbuckling Chelsea side are having a terrific start to the season, confounding the critics who said they wouldn’t challnge for a top four place this season. They host a struggling Villa side who can blow hot and cold, from one day to the next.

Past Meetings

The pair haven’t met in the league since 2015/16, with Chelsea winning 4-0 at Villa Park, Chelsea last won this corresponding fixture in that same season, beating Villa 2-0 in October 2015.

Team News

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham’s injury isn’t as bad as initially feared. The youngster limped off during The Blues’ 2-2 draw against Valencia as The Mestalla in the Champions League. Abraham enjoyed a 26-goal loan stint with Villa last season and will hope to play against his old side.

Villa have no fresh injury worries going into the game. Dean Smith should’ve a full squad to choose from for the clash against Chelsea.

Chelsea vs. Aston Villa Preview and Predictions

Chelsea will prove to have simply too much for a struggling Villa side, and that’s reflected by the Blues’ price of 1.28. Smith’s side have only won once on the road this season, and don’t score many away from Villa Park. Chelsea have only lost once at home this season, to runaway leaders Liverpool. With Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic playing sublime stuff in midfielder for Chelsea and Abraham really taking to the No 9 shirt for Chelsea, it’s difficult to see anything other than a home victory. The shock away win is out to 10.25.

Villa may form a defensive block and hope to hang on for a draw, their away record doesn’t make for good reading, and it’s difficult to see them taking anything from this game. An unlikely point is priced at 5.90.
