Chelsea vs. Nottingham Forest Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side are as inconsistent as it gets, and look to build some strong momentum as they face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. This might be the Blues’ best chance of silverware this season, but they’re a prize scalp for the visitors.

Past Meetings

The two sides met in the FA Cup in this round last year, when a second string Chelsea side struggled to beat Nottingham Forest by two goals to nil, both thanks to Alvaro Morata.

Team News

Lampard will undoubtedly look to rotate heavily for Sunday’s game, having seen signs of fatigue in recent games. N’Golo Kante may therefore drop out for Jorginho, whilst Andrea Christensen will hope to get some game time in central defence. Christian Pulisic, Marcus Alonso and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all nearing returns and may get game time on Sunday.

Sabri Lamouchi is expected to field his strongest possible line-up on Sunday, although may look to give his side a more defensive edge than normal. This could see Alfa Semedo pushed into an attacking midfield role, with Ben Watson fielded in defensive midfield. Tendayi Darikwa and Yuri Ribeiro are both absent at full-back.

Chelsea vs. Nottingham Forest Predictions, Preview and Predictions

Chelsea have a good record against Nottingham Forest in cup fixtures, and will aim to continue this form into 2020, as the sides face off on Sunday. It’s 1.08 for that record to continue with a home win, with Forest out to 15.25 and the draw after 90 minutes at 7.75.

Forest are in decent form themselves having racked up consecutive wins in their last two games of the year, and have seen themselves rise up into the promotion spots of the Championship. They will be full of enthusiasm for Sunday’s game as a result, with players keen to make a name for themselves, as they did in a defeat of Arsenal in the 2017/18 FA Cup.

Their hosts will be relatively confident themselves, having pulled off their own a stunning last-ditch turn-around against Arsenal in their final game of 2020. The Blues end the decade with their worst points total, however, full of optimism with the squad full of promising youngsters and a transfer ban lifted.

Saturday’s game may be a chance to see some of the Blues more underused players of the season, with Loftus-Cheek requiring minutes to return to match fitness. The mercurial central-midfielder is one of Lampard’s most exciting players, and will enjoy the space in front of what is likely to be a deep lying Forest defence.

Chelsea are undoubted favourites as they look to knock Forest out of a cup for the third consecutive year, however, nothing is ever certain with the FA Cup, and the away side will go to Stamford Bridge hoping to catch Lampard’s side on one of their off days. If they do, Sunday’s fixture could be far closer than anticipated.

Recommended Bets

Total goals over 3.5 at 1.68

Chelsea beat Forest 5-1 two seasons ago, and, on their day are a potent attacking side.

Chelsea to win to nil at 1.66

With Lampard likely to rest the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount, the Blues attacking force may be limited, with a strong back line their best chance of winning.
