Cagliari vs. Milan Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Zlatan Ibrahimovic couldn’t help Milan beat Sampdoria in his return, but he gets another chance to make an impact already this weekend at Cagliari. The home side are coming from a thumping defeat to reigning champions Juventus and have promised to not make the same mistakes against Milan this weekend and are facing a Rossoneri side lacking goal scorers.

Past Meetings

Cagliari haven’t won against Milan in their last two home games, and only once in the last five meetings between the two sides. Despite the Rossoneri struggling lately, they managed to keep the Rossoblu to a draw in Sardinia last season and won 3-0 at the Giuseppe Meazza in January. The first meeting between the two sides represents a different story, though, as Cagliari have started the season very well and Milan are going through a very tough spell after almost qualifying for the Champions League last season. Joao Pedro is Cagliari’s leading goal scorer this season, but the Brazilian forward enjoys playing against Milan. He has scored three goals in his four games against the Rossoneri.

Team News

Forward Leonardo Pavoletti is not expected back until April 2020, but Italy goalkeeper Alessio Cragno is expected back this week. He might not be thrown into the lion’s den straight away, but when Cagliari are struggling to keep a clean sheet, Robin Olsen might start sweating over his place in the side. Luca Ceppitelli is still out with a heelspur and Daniele Ragatzu has been ill – but could be back in contention.

Leo Duarte has been out after performing surgery on his ankle and is expected back in March this year, whilst Ante Rebic suffers from lumbago and has also been linked with a move away from San Siro this winter. Ricardo Rodriguez is out with an injury, but also the left-back has been replaced in the side and has been rumoured to be looking for a move away.

Cagliari vs. Milan Preview and Predictions

Cagliari are suffering after a great start to the season. The expectations are high in Sardinia, but a poor spell have seen them fall to sixth place in the League, after being as high as fourth during the first half of the season. They finish of the first 19 rounds of fixtures against the Rossoneri and hope to end what has been a great half of the season on a high and may be backed at 2.95 to win the game, with Milan at 2.40.

The away side are struggling to score goals and left the pitch without a goal for the third time in a row in their return to action from the winter break. Another goalless game is not expected, but not unlikely either and a draw can be backed at 3.50.

All eyes are on Zlatan Ibrahimovic these days, but he couldn’t help his teammates after coming off the bench against the Blucerchiati. The Swedish superstar will be hoping to get among the goals already in his second appearance in his comeback season at the club, and he might even start, as Krzysztof Piatek struggles to perform in his second season of Italian football.

The Poland international came to the Giuseppe Meazza after scoring a host of goals at Genoa, but haven’t settled well in Milan. He is rumoured to be a target of other clubs now that Zlatan has arrived and might be heading for the door. If he gets another chance against Cagliari, he could do with a goal or two.

Cagliari captain Radja Nainggolan had regrets after losing 4-0 to Juventus during their last fixture and it wasn’t the return to action the Rossoblu were hoping for. He challenged his teammates to evict the mistakes from their encounter at the Allianz Stadium when Milan come to the Island.

Recommended Bets

Total amount of goals Under 2.5 at 1.95

Cagliari left the pitch without a goal against Juventus, but had some chances during the first half and will have to dig into the archive to find a game without scoring. But their poor performance at the Allianz might stay with them and just one or two might be enough to beat the Rossoneri, who are struggling to score for three games in a row.

Draw without goals at 10.25

With two sides looking to shut down shop, Milan could go on their third goalless draw in four games against the Sardinians. Despite either of the two teams not drawing more than five times in 18 games, their recent form could lead to another poor display from two sides lacking confidence. The anti-climax to Zlatan’s return might continue for the visitors.
