Atlético Madrid aim to continue their unbeaten La Liga run as they travel to Andalusia face Cadiz on Sunday. Diego Simeone’s side have not lost a league match since September and Spin Sports’ football betting online has them at 1.46 to keep their streak going with a win this weekend.

Past Meetings

An 86th-minute goal from Alberto Perea secured a draw for Cadiz when the sides met in an international friendly over the summer, after Yannick Carrasco scored the opener. In competitive football, Atlético were dominant last season, winning 8-2 on aggregate across both their home and away matches.

Team News

Álvaro Cervera is expected to ring the changes following Cadiz’s heavy defeat to Getafe. Jon Ander Garrido, José Mari and Martín Calderón are likely to be drafted in despite only recently returning from injury, in an effort to shore up the midfield. The manager may look to bring in Fali, either to supplement the back line or to replace Juan Cala who struggled at the weekend.

After Felipe was suspended for Atlético’s midweek Champions League fixture, the defender is expected to start against Cadiz. João Félix and Kieran Trippier are injured for the visitors, who are expected to field a similar line-up to Sunday’s win over Osasuna, with Luis Suárez potentially rested. This would see Antoine Griezmann act as a lone striker, supported by Yannick Carrasco and Ángel Correa.

Cadiz vs. Atlético Madrid Preview and Predictions

Atlético Madrid look to make up ground on the top three this weekend as they take on a relegation-threatened Cadiz side. Los Piratas were on their best run of the season with five points from three games before the international break, but lost 4-0 to Getafe on their return to bring them within a point of the bottom three.

The La Liga table is looking much better from Atlético’s point of view, with Los Rojiblancos in fourth place. To make matters even better for Simeone’s side, two of the teams above them, Real Madrid and Sevilla, face off this weekend, meaning a win will ensure they gain ground on at least one of their competitors. The champions have lost just one game this season, but have struggled to secure wins and are only one draw away from their total tally of eight last year.

Sunday’s match is unlikely to see the visitors hit this number, however, as Cadiz have struggled defensively this season. Álvaro Cervera’s side have conceded the second most goals this term, averaging 1.65 per match, while worryingly scoring significantly less than a goal per game. These type of stats will be worrying for the manager, whose defensive record last season was compensated for by a front line in better form.

Against Atlético, the failure to pose a real attacking threat encourages Simeone’s side to come out swinging. Given the offensive talent at their disposal, the visitors will be confident of unlocking their opponents and as shown by their narrow win against Osasuna, they are willing to be patient and grind out a narrow victory. If the hosts want to take anything from the game, they will have to hope that Álvaro Negredo or Anthony Lozano find their form come Sunday.
