Vitality Stadium – Premier League
Chelsea secured a big win in the Champions League battle last weekend but need to follow it up with another win against relegation-threatened Bournemouth this time. Frank Lampard’s men made a statement with their win against Spurs last time out, but will have to prove that they are capable of achieving their top-four target against the Cherries.
Chelsea have struggled against Bournemouth lately and the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge ended in a 1-0 win for Eddie Howe’s men, thanks to a deciding goal by Dan Gosling. Last year, the home side picked up an emphatic win at the Vitality Stadium, when a Joshua King brace inspired the hosts to a 4-0 win against the Blues. Eddie Howe has guided Bournemouth to nine points from their last five games against Chelsea, while only three of their 11 Premier League meetings have seen both teams score.
Eddie Howe is still without Lloyd Kelly, who pulled his hamstring in November, adding to long-term absentees David Brooks and Charlie Daniels. The Bournemouth boss shouldn’t have any other new injury or suspension issues ahead of the big game against the Blues.
Chelsea are sweating over the fitness of a vital trio in N’Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi. They should have both Pedro Rodriguez and Tammy Abraham back in Premier League action though, after promising signs during a busy week with an appointment in London against Bayern Munich.
Bournemouth vs. Chelsea Preview and Predictions
Chelsea are currently three points above fifth-placed Manchester United, as they bounced back from two setbacks with a win against Tottenham and former manager Jose Mourinho last weekend. The win ensured they protected their place among the top four in the Premier League and may be backed at 1.76 to follow it up with another win this weekend, making sure United can’t catch up when they play Everton on Sunday.
Bournemouth are at the other end of the table and in need of points to climb away from the relegation zone. Their latest results have been far from impressive, as the Cherries have lost back-to-back fixtures against Sheffield United and Burnley. They may be backed at 4.65 to win their second in four games against Chelsea, while a draw stands at 3.75 in this game at the Vitality Stadium.
The Blues received some good news during the week when Abraham and Pedro proved their fitness, but they are still sweating over the fitness of a few key members of the squad this time around. Bournemouth have only lost twice in their last six home games and could prove a stern test for the visitors, but on paper it should be a comfortable evening for Lampard’s men - even with those injuries.
Howe and the Cherries are currently fighting hard to stay in the Premier League, but they might not be overly worried about claiming the necessary points against a big team like Chelsea and could be boosted by having a free shot at one of the Champions League teams in the league.
Both teams not to score at 2.00
Seeing as the record between these two sides reveals a pattern where either side usually wins to nil, it could be worth another punt when Chelsea travel to the south coast this weekend. If you think the Blues are going to claim the spoils, the odds could be boosted by Chelsea to win to nil.
Tammy Abraham to score the first goal at 3.80
The English striker has regularly been on target for Chelsea this term and should be fit again to help Chelsea go for another three points against relegation-threatened Bournemouth. The striker has scored 13 times in 25 Premier League games but has struggled to keep up his efficiency from the start of the season.
