Past Meetings

The reverse fixture ended in a 3-1 win for Union Berlin in the German capital and Borussia Dortmund lost their only game against the newly promoted side. In their three other meetings, Dortmund have won all of them – including one on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the DFB-Pokal in October 2016. Marius Bulter was the hero for the home side when they managed to hand BVB a defeat in their first meeting in the Bundesliga, as Sebastian Andersson put the nail in the coffin after Paco Alcacer’s consolation goal for the Schwarzgelben.

Team News

Only Thomas Delaney is missing for Lucien Favre, who will be able to continue to build on the team’s current form after the winter break, but the story is completely different for their opposition.

Union arrive at Signal Iduna Park with a long injury list and recently lost Suleiman Abdullahi, after Grischa Promel, Joshua Mees and Manuel Schmiedebach also have been ruled out in January. They are adding to a list including long-term injured Akaki Gogia and Laurenz Dehl.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Union Berlin Preview and Predictions

Union Berlin stunned BVB in their return to the Bundesliga and Lucien Favre’s men will be determined to get revenge on Saturday. The Schwarzgelben have scored ten goals in their two last Bundesliga fixtures, but have conceded four in the process and are relying on the new starlet Braut Haaland to keep scoring. BVB may be backed at 1.25 to win the game on Saturday.

Braut Haaland has already matched Paco Alcacer’s record for the campaign with his five goals in two matches and will probably get his first start against Union Berlin. Favre was clear on easing the pressure on the youngster and letting him get warm, but it doesn’t seem like he needs the wait.

In the process, Paco Alcacer has been linked with a move away from the club, as Dortmund continue their quest to fight for the Bundesliga title this term. Currently, they’re four points away from RB Leipzig at the top and are placed fourth, as four teams are still in with a shout in the German top division.

Union Berlin have performed very well in their first season back in the Bundesliga, but are not quite safe, as they sit six points above the play-out position at 11th. A lot is left to be said before May and another win, at 11.75 could help them.

Borussia Dortmund have racked up six draws in their first 19 games and another one stands at 6.25 times your money, as the BVC will regret losing points against teams from the bottom half of the table during the campaign.

They will need to string together a good run to keep up with the top teams and everything is completely open in the German top tier as we enter the decisive months. It could be a lot of drama ahead and maybe Bayern Munich will be tipped from their throne.

Recommended Bets

Dortmund to score Over 4.5 at 5.75

It might be difficult to picture a team scoring five or more in three games in a row, but BVB could easily manage to get another big score against Union Berlin this weekend. The away side are very inconsistent and as Braut Haaland has scored five off the bench in his first two games, what could he do if he gets to start against the newly promoted team from the capital.

Dortmund to win from behind at 6.65

Union scored first last time and Dortmund equalised. Then the Iron Ones ended up winning the game, but they tend to score and if they score first, the home side will have to turn the game around, something they proven to do quite well also this month. Only two weeks ago, against Augsburg, they were 2-0 and 3-1 down but still managed to win 5-3.
