Borussia Dortmund vs. Freiburg Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
27 February 2020
Saturday 29 February
Signal Iduna Park – Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund are on a great run and hope to prepare for Paris-Saint Germain with another three points against Freiburg in the Bundesliga. Lucien Favre’s men followed up their big win against the Ligue 1 champions with a victory over Werder Bremen last time out, but Freiburg are desperate to turn things around and kick on from ninth place in the table.
BVB couldn’t get past Freiburg at the Schwarzwald-Stadion earlier this campaign, but the season has changed for both sides since their 2-2 draw in October. Borussia Dortmund won last season’s corresponding fixture 2-0, while Freiburg’s best result against Die Schwarzgelben is a draw. Three of their last five meetings have ended all square though.
Dortmund are still without their captain Marco Reus, who has been out since the start of February and is not expected back before 5 March, whilst Thomas Delaney is another player on the treatment table after picking up a knee problem in January.
Freiburg are without Amir Abrashi - who tore a muscle fibre last week - and are not expecting him back in time for the meeting with BVB. Lukas Kübler is also out with a knee injury but that is nothing new for Christian Streich as he’s been missing since October.
Borussia Dortmund vs. Freiburg Preview and Predictions
Borussia Dortmund have caught up with the top two and are currently battling it out with RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. Another win may be backed at 2.20 against Freiburg this Saturday, as Die Schwarzgelben are trying to put further pressure on Die Roten in the title race.
Man of the moment Erling Braut Haaland can’t stop scoring. He bagged a brace against PSG in the Champions League and another goal against Werder last weekend to move to a tally of 11 goals in eight games for his new club.
The confidence is high at the Westfalenstadion and Freiburg will require a big performance to get something from the match, where they may be backed at 12.75 to win and 6.90 to get a point from their travels to Dortmund.
The home side have been looking very efficient though, and it usually takes a number of goals to overcome Favre’s men - a 3-2 defeat to Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal and a 4-3 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the league are their last two reverses. They have managed to score another eight goals in three games since then, and will be looking to stun their opponents from the off on Saturday.
Dortmund to win and both teams to score at 2.20
Roman Burki has had a good season between the sticks at Dortmund, but has only kept seven clean sheets and conceded 31 goals in 20 Bundesliga games so far. It could mean that Dortmund will have to outscore their opponents once again as one goal rarely does it for the home side.
Dortmund to score over 3.5 goals at 2.60
Four goals from a high-scoring Dortmund would be ideal preparation for their trip to Paris. With an average of 4.22 goals per game and only six out of their 23 league games this season ending with under 3.5 goals, it wouldn’t be too surprising if we get another high scoring game.
