Beşiktaş vs. Borussia Dortmund Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
15 September 2021
Vodafone Park – Champions League
Erling Haaland and Donyell Malen have struck up a good partnership for Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund travel to Turkey on Wednesday to get their Champions League campaign started against Beşiktaş. Marco Rose will be hoping for a good start to his European career with Dortmund and is 1.57 to win according to Spin Sports’ football betting online.
These teams have not met in competitive football before, so new ground will be broken whatever the result on Wednesday.
Sergen Yalçin will be unwilling to make wholesale changes to a side that has made a strong start, with Ridvan Yilmaz deputising for the injured Fabrice N'Sakala. Salih Uçan is suspended for the weekend’s Super Lig match and so is likely to rotate back into midfield on Wednesday.
Marco Rose is likely to go with a strong line-up against Beşiktaş and may stick with his Erling Haaland-Donyell Malen partnership up front. Dortmund have struggled with injuries in recent weeks, with Mats Hummels, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Nico Schulz and Marcel Schmelzer all missing out. Julian Brandt should be fit to return on Tuesday and may be joined by Thorgan Hazard.
Beşiktaş vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview and Predictions
Beşiktaş welcome Borussia Dortmund to Vodafone Park on Wednesday in their first taste of Champions League football since 2017-18. The German side have had more success in recent years, but have not hit the heights of their final-reaching campaign of 2012-13.
Dortmund have overseen a change in management over the summer, with promising Borussia Mönchengladbach boss Marco Rose taking over. The coach has had some experience with his old club in the Champions League, but will be under far harsher expectations at BVB. With just over a month since the season started, the visitors are heavy favourites to win in Turkey.
For the hosts, expectations may be lower but that does not mean that the pressure will not be on. Sergen Yalçin’s side were extremely active in the transfer window over the summer, with ambitious signings including Miralem Pjanić and Michy Batshuayi.
The Turks’ manager has a number of players at his disposal that are expected to significantly increase the quality of his first team, but whether he is able to integrate them is a different matter. On-loan Chelsea striker Batshuayi is yet to get off the mark for his new club, while Rachid Ghezzal has also drawn a blank during his time in Turkey.
Beşiktaş will be hoping that their summer reinforcements swing into action by Wednesday, or they may be in for a long night against Rose’s talented Dortmund side.
Both teams to score at 1.80
Dortmund have been shaky defensively and could be vulnerable against former player Batshuayi.
Over 2.5 goals scored at 1.64
Erling Haaland was the UEFA striker of the year last season and will hope to get on the scoresheet on Wednesday.
