Bayern Munich vs. Paderborn Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
20 February 2020
Friday 21 February
Allianz Arena - Bundesliga
It’s top versus bottom in this Friday night Bundesliga fixture, as Bayern Munich play host to Paderborn at the Allianz Arena. Bayern are unbeaten since early December, while the visitors are six points from safety.
Bayern have won all four of the meetings between these clubs to date. Paderborn did at least manage to register two goals in their 3-2 defeat at home to Die Roten in September, the first time they’d scored against Bayern following two 6-0 defeats and a 4-0 loss to the Bavarian giants since reaching the Bundesliga for the first time in 2014.
Ivan Perisic continues his recovery from a broken ankle, with the Croatian winger expected to return to action for Bayern next month. Javi Martinez is due back from injury even sooner, but Niklas Sule is out for the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
Paderborn manager Steffen Baumgart is sweating on the fitness of three players, with Abdelhamid Sabiri, Rifet Kapic and Gerrit Holtmann all racing the clock to make this game. Luca Kilian is definitely out with a thigh injury though.
Bayern Munich vs. Paderborn Preview and Predictions
On the face of it, there appears to be little to no chance of Paderborn taking any sort of result with them back to eastern North Rhine-Westphalia. Bayern Munich have won every time the teams have met, are looking for their eighth straight Bundesliga crown, and have accrued 30 more points after 22 matches than their visitors this weekend.
Bayern put the disappointment of their goalless draw at home to title rivals RB Leipzig behind them by swatting aside Koln 4-1 on their own patch on Sunday afternoon. Die Roten are only a single point ahead of Leipzig, but Hans-Dieter Flick has started his reign in the Bayern hot seat with 13 wins from his first 16 fixtures.
Der FCB are more vulnerable than in previous seasons, but giving Paderborn anything more than an outside puncher’s chance here would be a real stretch. Especially with a red-hot Robert Lewandowski leading the line for the hosts. The Pole comes into this game on the back of 13 goals in his last 13 matches, and averages a goal every 85 minutes in the Bundesliga this season.
There’s plenty for Paderborn to be fearful of, yet any kind of result here would be huge for their confidence. Baumgart’s side may be six points behind 15th-placed Mainz, but they’re only one behind Fortuna in 16th and a play-off for survival. There’s no doubt the away team are the huge underdogs though, priced at a massive 37.50 for the win. Bayern are 1.05, while you can back the draw at 15.75.
Bayern to win and over 3.5 goals at 1.38
This bet would’ve paid out in all four of the previous meetings between these clubs, and could be a useful way to enhance your odds on the home win.
Bayern to win 6-0 at 15.25
Bayern haven beaten Paderborn 6-0 twice in the last five years. Both of those matches were away from home, so it’s not out of the question we see a repeat of that scoreline on Friday night.
