Bayern Munich vs. Augsburg Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
06 March 2020
Sunday 8 March
Allianz Arena – Bundesliga
Bayern Munich are back on great form and look to strengthen their Bundesliga defence with their sixth consecutive win in all competitions. Augsburg arrive after a dismal run of results and will hope to not get on the wrong end of another big Bayern performance.
Augsburg have only picked up two wins in 20 games against the Bavarians and Munich are expected to revenge the 2-2 draw WWK Arena in the reverse fixture. Marco Richter and Alfredh Finnbogason scored the goals for the home side, on either side of Lewandoski and Serge Gnabry’s goals for the visitors. Augsburg last won at the Allianz Arena in May 2015, when it ended in a 1-0 triumph for the guests, but they arrive without confidence to face a high-flying opponent.
Bayern will have to cope without Robert Lewandowski, who is out with a shinbone injury and expected back later this month. Three players could come back for Hansi Flick ahead of the weekend, but the Augsburg match could come too soon for them, as Kingsley Coman, Lucas Hernandez and Jerome Boateng are expected to be in contention. Hernandez injured himself last weekend, but it shouldn’t be serious for the centre-back. Ivan Perisic and Niklas Süle are also out, with the former out until mid-March.
Simon Asta ruptured his cruciate ligament in January and will be out for the rest of the season, as he joins Felix Götze on the sideline. The latter has been out since March 2019 with a hip problem, but other than that, Martin Schmidt should have a full squad to pick from ahead of the match against the League leaders.
Bayern Munich vs. Augsburg Preview and Predictions
After a rough start to the season under Niko Kovac, the Bavarians have revelled under Hansi Flick and the season is back on track, fighting on all fronts this campaign. It’s not the first time they have been successful in changing the man behind the wheel and they may be backed at 1.08 to pick up their sixth win on the bounce across all competitions.
Augsburg are currently struggling in the bottom half but are 10 points above relegation and have little to play for against the reigning champions. Schmidt’s men are struggling to perform of late and back-to-back defeats won’t help their confidence. They may be backed at a massive 31.50 to win against Die Roten, whilst a draw stands at 11.00 on Sunday.
But the home side should be without their leading goalscorer Lewandowski, who has picked up a shin bone injury and isn’t expected back until later this month. The Poland international has been on remarkable form again this campaign and is currently on 25 goals in 23 Bundesliga games.
Thomas Müller’s revival after the appointment of Flick has come in handy now, as they are also expecting to have Kingsley Coman back anytime soon. Serge Gnabry is also on double figures in the League with his 11 goals from 22 games and he has been a great watch also in the Champions League.
Bayern are looking confident and it should be another big game, maybe the young starlet Joshua Zirkzee could get another chance in the absence of Lewi, as the Dutch forward has scored three in four games so far this season.
Bayern Munich 3W Handicap (-3) at 2.50
It wouldn’t be the first time they tear up their opposition at the Allianz Arena and Bayern are in a threatening mood to do so these weeks. One always expects a lot of goals from Die Roten and the away side are looking sorry in recent weeks. Bayern are trying to learn how to cope without Lewandowski and could make a big statement with a high-scoring game.
Joshua Zirkzee to score first at 4.35
When the Poland international Lewandowski is out, Zirkzee has proven to step up to the plate with some great performances. He has scored more for the first team than the reserves and most recently in a 6-0 win against Hoffenheim. If he gets the chance to start, he might be another fairytale story from the great Bavaria.
