Bayer Leverkusen vs. Borussia Dortmund Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
05 February 2020
Saturday 8 February
BayArena - Bundesliga
Third plays fifth in the Bundesliga this weekend, as free-scoring Borussia Dortmund head to the BayArena to face Bayer Leverkusen. Die Schwarzgelben have scored five times in each of their three games since the winter break, while this has been a high-scoring fixture in recent seasons.
Dortmund have won five of their last six games against Leverkusen, drawing the other 1-1. Die Borussen scored 21 goals in those five victories, with Leverkusen managing six in reply. Die Werkself have only won one of the last 10 meetings between the sides, a 2-0 victory at the BayArena in October 2016.
Kerem Demirbay is suspended for this game after picking up a second yellow card in the 92nd minute of Leverkusen’s 2-1 defeat at Hoffenheim last weekend. Midfielder Charles Aranguiz also misses out with a calf injury.
Emre Can may have to wait for his debut after joining Dortmund on loan from Juventus, as the midfielder is struggling with illness. Thomas Delaney is also doubtful thanks to an ankle injury, although Lucien Favre has a fully-fit squad apart from that.
Bayer Leverkusen vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview and Predictions
Dortmund have been in great shape since returning from the winter break, sweeping aside all comers in emphatic style. Fifteen goals in three games have made light work of Augsburg, Koln and Union Berlin, but a trip to Bayern Leverkusen is a sterner test for the title-chasing Schwarzgelben.
Leverkusen may have thrown away the lead to go down 2-1 at Hoffenheim on Saturday, but they‘d won three in a row before that, scoring seven goals in their two matches since the break. Peter Bosz’s side are only eight points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, and firmly in the hunt for the top four.
Dortmund are only three points off top though, and have a new goalscoring sensation within their ranks. Erling Braut Haaland may have played just 136 minutes across three matches for his new club, but only Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho have scored more than the seven goals the Norwegian youngster has already notched.
All three of those players were on target in the 5-0 rout of Union Berlin at the weekend, and the confidence is coursing through Dortmund veins. With that in mind, the away win looks pretty enticing at 2.20. Leverkusen meanwhile are 3.10 and the draw is 3.85.
Dortmund to win and BTTS at 2.95
Die Borussen are the favourites to pick up the three points in this game, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet at the BayArena on their last three visits to the stadium.
Dortmund to win and over 3.5 goals at 3.90
This bet would’ve paid out in each of the last four meetings between these teams, including in September when Dortmund beat Leverkusen 4-0 at the Westfalenstadion.
