Bayer Leverkusen vs. Bayern Munich Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
14 October 2021
BayArena - Bundesliga
It’s a top-of-the-table showdown as Bayer Leverkusen take on Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Sunday. The two teams are locked together on 16 points after seven games, with the visitors the 1.62 favourites according to Spin Sports’ football betting online.
Bayern Munich won their last meeting with Bayer comfortably thanks to goals from Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Joshua Kimmich. The 2-0 scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story though, as Bayern dominated with over 60% possession and tripled their opponents’ shot count.
Karim Bellarabi is likely to return to Gerardo Seoane’s stating line-up, replacing Amine Adli on the flank. The manager is without Julian Baumgartlinger, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Edmond Tapsoba through injury, but Robert Andrich and Exequiel Palacios could make their return this weekend.
Benjamin Pavard is set to return for Julian Nagelsmann’s side having served his red card suspension. The Bayern manager is unlikely to make major changes to his starting XI, with Kingsley Coman potentially returning to the bench after heart surgery and Marcel Sabitzer yet to earn a starting berth.
Bayer Leverkusen vs. Bayern Munich Preview and Predictions
Bayer Leverkusen look to dispel their reputation as the eternal bridesmaids as they take on Bayern Munich at the BayArena on Sunday. A win for the hosts would see them overtake their rivals, taking the lead in an exceptionally close Bundesliga top four.
With seven games gone, just one point separates the top four clubs in Germany, with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich tied on 16 and Borussia Dortmund and SC Frieberg just below with 15. Although early in the season, the likes of Bayer and Dortmund will be keen to keep pace with the current Bundesliga champions, hoping that Bayern Munich will slip up.
Surprisingly, Julian Nagelsmann’s side’s first defeat came in their last game against Eintracht Frankfurt, as the 13th-placed team won 2-1 at the Allianz Arena. This is unlikely to cause too much concern for the new manager, who just four days previously had won 5-0 against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League, but has opened the door for other sides to catch up.
Sunday’s hosts have not beaten Bayern in four times of asking, but arguably are better poised than ever to get a result this weekend. Gerardo Seoarne’s side have lost just once, in a close match against Borussia Dortmund, and have a front line in fine form.
Florian Wirtz is in the midst of a breakout season. Known by many in Leverkusen already, the German international is making his name on the world stage this year. Patrik Schick has settled into his role and has already scored two thirds of last year’s goal tally with six to his name, while Moussa Diaby is continuing to excel on the flank.
With Bayern Munich’s defence as weak as it has been in a long time, if the hosts can avoid being punished at the opposite end of the pitch, their front line could fire them to victory.
Leverkusen to win at 5.00
Despite being heavy underdogs, the hosts are in solid form and will be gunning for the win on Sunday.
Both teams to score at 1.44
Bayern have just one clean sheet in their last four Bundesliga matches.
