Camp Nou – La Liga
Reigning champions Barcelona have been out of form as of late, but are still relying on moments of brilliance from Lionel Messi to get them out of trouble. They lost to Valencia in their last outing, can they regain top spot as they welcome Levante to the Camp Nou?
Levante picked up all three points against Barcelona earlier this season in a 3-1 win. Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot but three second half Levante goals – inside seven minutes – gave the points to the Granotas.
Barca won this fixture 1-0 last season, with Messi – who else? – scoring the only goal.
Barcelona are without Luis Suarez for the remainder of the season after the striker suffered a knee injury. Left winger Ousmane Dembele is nearing a retur nto fitness but still isn’t ready to feature. Neto is also a doubt for the Blaugrana with a sprained ankle.
Levante meanwhile are without midfielder Enis Bardhi with a muscle injury. They also have five players that are one yellow card away from a one game suspension.
Barcelona vs. Legante Preview and Predictions
The reigning champions looked short of ideas in their defeat to Valencia last week, and will need Messi at his best if they are to reverse their fortunes against Levante. Ideally, someone else would step up and ease the burden on Messi’s shoulders but with Barca in a state of flux after changing coach – sacking Ernesto Valverde and eventually appointing Quique Setien – that’s not necessarily going to happen.
Setien’s Barca have dominated possession but not points so far – and if anything, their stranglehold on the ball has worked against them. They had almost 75% of possession against Valencia, but managed only five shots on target to Los Che’s six. Levante will be happy to cede the ball to Barca, and hope to hit on the break.
Levante have only won twice in their last five games, but they could prove to be a banana skin for Barca. A well-drilled defence and organised midfield can hold out against a Barca side struggling to find the balance between possession and attacking football, and Levante’s price of 17.50 to win could be value – as could the draw at 10.00. Barca are 1.13 and, if they click, should take the points.
Barcelona to win and both to score at 2.15
Barca can score at will, but they are also vulnerable at the back, an issue that Levante could exploit, but they will ultimately lose the game to the Catalans.
Draw-Levante double chance at 6.05
It’s probably beyond Levante to get a win at Camp Nou, where Barca have only dropped two points in the league all season, but a draw isn’t given how sterile Barca have been at times lately
