Augsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
15 January 2020
Saturday 18 January
WWK Arena – Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund have strengthened their squad over the winter and are looking to fight the top three for the title in the German Bundesliga, their first hurdle will come against a strong Augsburg challenge.
Borussia Dortmund won their reverse fixture this term with a 5-1 result in August last year and will be hoping to revenge their 2-1 loss at the WWK Arena last season. We have to dig back to the DFB-Pokal meeting from December 2015 to find their last meeting without both teams scoring as they have a run of eight games with both teams to score and three of them have ended in a 1-1 draw. Dortmund still have the upper hand during those matches and have ton four times against Augsburg’s only win mentioned above from March last year.
Augsburg lost Simon Asta during the first week of January, as he ruptured his cruciate ligament and will be out for the foreseeable future. He was added to a list of long-term absentees Felix Götze, Carlos Gruezo and Marek Suchy.
Lucien Favre will still be without Thomas Delaney and Marcel Schmeltzer but could count on their new superstar Erling Braut Haaland to be ready for his debut at the club. The coach said he might not give the new forward his first start already against Augsburg and would like to ease him in and make sure he adapts well to his new side. But all eyes are on the former RB Salzburg hero.
Augsburg vs. Borussia Dortmund Preview and Predictions
Martin Schmidt are looking forward to the return of Bundesliga after ending 2019 on with a setback after a good run of games. After three wins in a row, two of them at WWK Arena against Mainz 05 and Fortuna Düsseldorf respectively, they ended 2019 with a loss to league leaders RB Leipzig. Schmidt’s men weren’t able to cause an upset then but will be hoping it could be different when BVB come to visit in their return to action after the break. Ahead of a fixture list with beatable opponents after these two top games, Augsburg could be boosted by a win over Dortmund and may be backed at 4.75 to get one over their rivals.
Dortmund travel to Augsburg after ending the year with two negative results against both Leipzig and Hoffenheim. The latter ended their year with a 2-1 loss and Favre’s job is still under pressure as Dortmund sit fourth in the German Bundesliga after 17 games. They are still not giving up to challenge for the title, as they’re seven points off the leaders, but will have to pull themselves together after a hurricane of a start to the season. The next half will have to be more consistent and they may be backed at 1.68 to win their first game back after the break. If you think they might draw the game at Augsburg, it stands at 4.20.
Dortmund will be boosted by the arrival of Braut Haaland, who chose Signal Iduna Park over a host of massive European clubs and the Norwegian teenager felt the team could help him develop into one of the best forwards in the game. The club’s track record of handing success to previous stars is proven and if he could get going straight away, it would suit all parties involved.
But Favre has insisted he won’t rush the 19-year-old and claimed he has the players available to help him ease his way into action. It’s not expected that Braut Haaland starts the game, as Paco Alcacer is still fit and good to go for the BVB. The Spanish forward has scored five times in 11 games for the club, with Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho both on nine in the League this term.
Dortmund to win and both teams to score at 2.50
The record has proven that both teams score against each other and Dortmund need to make a statement getting on a winning run and will have to start against tenth-placed Augsburg this weekend. They probably won’t keep a clean sheet this time either.
Dortmund to win both halves and match to end in Over 2.5 goals 3.00
Another high scoring game, like the 5-1 win at the Signal Iduna Park in the reverse fixture, and the last three fixtures between the two sides have ended in a total of 17 goals combined. Dortmund will be gunning for the win from the off and punters might be looking to raise the odds by combining the outcomes.
