Atletico Madrid vs. Sevilla Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews

Atletico Madrid welcome Sevilla to the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday evening in what could be a potentially tricky fixture. The hosts have set the pace in La Liga this season but the visitors are always a dangerous opponent.

Past Meetings

An action packed first half saw two goals from either side with Luuk de Jong and Joao Felix scoring from open play, and Alvaro Morata and Lucas Ocampos both scoring from the penalty spot, when the sides last met in March 2020.

There hasn’t been a winner in this fixture since February 2018, when Atleti took a 5-2 victory from their meeting at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. There were three straight 1-1 draws thereafter, and the most recent 2-2 draw.

Team News

Diego Simeone is expected to ring the changes following the weekend fixture against Athletic Bilbao. Luis Suarez is expected to retain his spot up front as the only fit striker, although Joao Felix may be rested in favour of Angel Correa or Thomas Lemar. Stefan Savic returned at the weekend following suspension but may just make the bench with Jose Giminez coming in.

Julen Lopetegui will be glad to welcome Fernando back to the line-up with the Brazilian stepping back into midfield. Oliver Torres is expected to start on the bench, making way for Ivan Rakitic on the left of midfield whilst Sergio Escudero and Tomás Vaclik remain sidelined through injury.

Atletico Madrid vs. Sevilla Predictions, Preview and Predictions

Sevilla travel north to face Atletico Madrid this week, as Lopetegui’s side look to maintain their unbeaten run. Los Nervionenses have not lost in their past eight games in all competitions prior to the weekend’s fixtures, but this fixture is priced at 2.05 to end in a home win

Diego Simeone’s side will be smarting after being knocked out of the Copa del Rey by La Liga B side Cornella. As a result the manager will be looking for a reaction from his players and may not be too upset to see the club focus their attention on league football.

Atletico sit top of the La Liga table with Tuesday’s game an opportunity to enhance their lead by playing a game in-hand. In this way the pressure will be reduced for both teams as the result will not negatively affect the league table, however both sides will be keen to take all three points.

Sevilla have been in solid form of late although at times have struggled to break down stubborn defences. As the home-side and favourites it will be interesting to see whether Atletico go out and attack their opponents, or play to their strengths on the counter-attack.

The visitors are 4.85 to win and doing so would catapult them into the top four. With much on the line for both sides, we should be in for a close game.

Recommended Bets

A draw at full time at 2.90

The teams are relatively evenly matched and a point would serve both well in the table. Atleti are in a tight title race, but games in hand mean they have something of a cushion to work with.

Under 2.5 goals scored at 1.57

Sevilla have scored fewer goals than any other side in the top 10 and may look to defend deep on Tuesday.
