Wanda Metropolitano – La Liga
Atletico Madrid get a big opportunity to take a step towards the top four in La Liga when Sevilla arrive at the Wanda Metropolitano. The fight for a place among the teams qualifying for the Champions League is getting intense between some great sides in the top of Spanish football.
Three 1-1 matches in a row might put a dent on the expectations ahead of this match, as the two giants have fought hard for the points in the League. Franco Vazquez scored the home sides goal at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, when Alvaro Morata equalised for Atletico in the reverse fixture this campaign. It followed two previous 1-1 results. Atletico was the last winner of the two, in a 5-2 win on February 25. Sevilla last won a Copa del Rey match 3-1 in January the same year, but in La Liga they have to take confidence from a 1-0 win at the Pizjuan in October 2016. Their last win in Madrid against Atleti came in the Copa del Rey in May 2010.
Diego Simeone must cope without injured José Giménez, who will miss the match after picking up a knee problem at the end of last month. He will also miss Thomas Partey, who has is ruled out because of a yellow card suspension after picking up 10 cards in 24 games.
Fernando will not be back until May after a recent tear in the adductor muscle. Tomas Vaclik struggles with a knee injury from late February and will be out of the game against Atletico. Fernando was already suspended for the game and would have missed the game anyway. Oliver Torres is also out with a yellow card suspension and will only miss this game against Simeone’s men.
Atletico Madrid vs. Sevilla Preview and Predictions
Atletico Madrid have a great record against Sevilla, who have struggled to win in Madrid against Diego Simeone’s men. But they are not alone in struggling to get something from the Wanda Metropolitano and Atleti may be backed at 1.95 to win also this weekend. But another draw between the two sides stand at 3.35 and would arguably be a safer bet.
The home side are currently positioned outside of the top four and face third-placed Sevilla when a draw might also be a good result for both of the teams. Getafe separate them and would be happy to see either side win to help their own cause to get into the prestigious Champions League tournament. Sevilla may be backed at 4.60 to pick up the three points from the capital and make a statement against their big rivals.
Julien Lopetegui’s men arrive after a 3-2 win against Osasuna at home and are unbeaten across all competitions in five games. They are drawn Roma in the Europa League and the game against Champions League opponents Atletico could be a great test ahead of an important game.
But Simeone’s men will definitely provide that test as the two sides arrive with trouble in front of goal. Atletico scored three in their last home game against Villarreal but were back to their usual self when they travelled to Espanyol drawing 1-1 in Catalunya.
Both teams to score at 2.15
With the 1-1 draws as a reference points and with two times struggling to score and usually struggling to keep a clean sheet this term, the two sides might have to fight it out with one each also this time. Maybe a winner can be decided but both teams to score at 2.20 provides great value when two teams from the top five meet to fight for a place in Europe.
Draw and Under 2.5 at 3.45
A draw between these two sides wouldn’t surprise anyone and a goalless stalemate wouldn’t either, but with both teams to score and a draw available, the 1-1 result they two care so much about is still available.
