Wanda Metropolitano - La Liga
Atletico Madrid are looking to put a poor run of form behind them when they entertain 10th-placed Granada at the Wanda Metropolitan this weekend. Los Rojiblancos have failed to win any of their last five matches in all competitions, and have slipped out of the La Liga title reckoning.
The teams shared a 1-1 draw at the Nuevo Los Carmenes earlier this season, ending a run of four straight victories for Atletico in this fixture. Diego Simeone’s side rattled in 13 goals in those four wins, with seven of them coming the last time they played Granada at home.
Simeone could be without a raft of players this weekend, with Joao Felix, Alvaro Morata, Koke and Santiago Arias all struggling. Jose Gimenez is a doubt, while Diego Costa and Dario Poveda are out. Felipe Monteiro is also unavailable due to suspension.
Neyder Lozano is expected to return for the visitors this weekend, but Granada will be without Angel Montoro and Quini for their trip to the capital. Alex Martinez, Antonio Montoro and Fede Vico are all struggling to make it too.
Atletico Madrid vs. Granada Preview and Predictions
How Simeone would love a resounding victory here like last season’s 7-1 triumph. Atletico’s 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid at the weekend leaves them 13 points their local rivals, who lead Barcelona by three at the top of the table.
A deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani failed to materialise in the January transfer window, with the Uruguayan deemed too expensive for a man with just six months left on his contract. Atleti are in need of some fresh impetus though, and haven’t recovered from losing their talisman, Antoine Griezmann, in the summer.
That’s reflected in the number of games Los Rojiblancos have drawn this season, with only three teams sharing the spoils on more occasions than the capital club’s nine. Atleti have only won five of their last 16 La Liga fixtures, drawing eight of those. They’ve only won one of their four matches since the winter break, failing to score in each of their last three.
This is a great opportunity for the hosts to get three points on the board though, with their visitors only managing three wins in their last 12 league games, losing eight. All of those victories were on home soil, with El Grana losing seven on the bounce on the road.
Diego Martinez’s side have only only won two of their last 30 away games in La Liga, losing 22. Atletico should get the job done here, and they are 1.39 to get back to winning ways. Granada have never beaten Atletico in La Liga but are 11.50 for the upset, while the draw’s priced at 4.25.
Atletico to win to nil at 1.76
Atleti have kept six clean sheets in their last eight games against Granada, winning 10 of the last 12 matches between the teams.
Atletico to win and under 2.5 goals at 2.40
Los Rojiblancos have an excellent record against Granada, but are struggling for form right now, so a narrow 1-0 or 2-0 victory could be on the cards.
