Atletico Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
24 October 2019
Saturday 26 October
Wanda Metropolitano – La Liga
Atletico Madrid look for their first win in three games as they host Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. Los Colchoneros are in danger of falling off the pace at the top of La Liga if results don’t improve soon.
Athletic Bilbao came out on top when the sides met last season, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Kenan Kodro and Inaki Williams.
Joao Felix’s injury has caused a real headache for Diego Simeone, with the manager expected to reshuffle the pack. Thomas Lemar is expected to start on the flank to provide extra attacking impetus whilst Angel Correa may also be handed a starting berth.
Gaizka Garitano is not expected to make many changes to his side, with Mikel Balenziaga continuing at left-back and Williams starting at centre-forward over Aritz Aduriz.
Atletico Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao Preview and Predictions
Despite drawing their last three La Liga games, Atletico Madrid remain just three points off the league leaders, rivals Real Madrid. On Saturday, they have an opportunity to shorten that gap, but face a difficult opponent in Athletic Bilbao. Another draw is priced at 3.50.
Garitano’s side could draw level with Atletico if they win at the Metropolitano, but have not been in the best form in recent weeks. Following a disappointing draw with Valladolid last weekend the Basque club’s winless run in La Liga extended to four games, including two defeats. An Athletic win is 5.85, with Atletico at 1.74.
Despite a seemingly strong front line, Athletic Bilbao have struggled to score in recent weeks, with just two goals since their win over Deportivo Alaves on the 22nd September. Against Diego Simeone’s side, who famously offer their opposition little going forward, they could well be in for a miserable afternoon.
Simeone himself may be concerned with where the goals will come from, with no Atletico players having scored more than two league goals this season. Even so, with the visitors struggling so much up front, he may be tempted to risk letting his players slightly off the lease on Saturday.
Atletico to win 1-0 at 5.25
Both teams are struggling going forward, but Atletico should edge it at home.
Both teams to score at 2.50
It should be a close game, with Simeone’s side potentially fatigued following Champions League action.
