Atalanta vs. Inter Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
31 July 2020
Saturday 1 August
Gewiss Stadium – Serie A
The final day of the Serie A season sees Inter travel to Atalanta in a straight fight for second place. Inter had hoped to be duking it out with Juventus for the Scudetto at this stage, while Atalanta’s remarkable season would be capped by clinching the runners-up spot.
The two sides have been evenly matched all season which was displayed in the reverse fixture, which ended 1-1. Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring after just the fourth minute, however Robin Gosens secured the equaliser in the second half.
Gian Piero Gasperini made significant changes mid-way through Atalanta’s mid-week fixture, moving Robin Gosens into central midfield. The manager is unlikely to retain the set-up from the off-set however and will be able to rely on Rafael Toloi, who returns from suspension.
Antonio Conte started Alexis Sanchez over Lautaro Martinez on Wednesday, however the argentine will surely be in first XI on Saturday following an impressive performance. Roberto Gagliardini returns from suspension, but fellow midfielders Stefano Sensi and Mattias Vecino are sidelined through injury.
Atalanta vs. Inter Predictions, Preview and Predictions
A win for Atalanta on Saturday would see Gasperini’s side overtake visitors, Inter, to claim a top-two finish. They are 2.25 to get it, with Inter at 3.00 and the draw priced at 3.75.
La Dea looked uncharacteristically stale in their mid-week win over Parma, falling behind in the first half, and requiring a late individual effort from Papu Gomez to ensure all three points. Whether due to player fatigue, a number of key injuries or demoralisation following Juventus’ league win, a similar performance against Inter would surely end in defeat.
Antonio Conte’s side impressed in their win over Napoli, who went into the game in good form themselves. The Nerazzuri may have relied on a couple of poor misses from the likes of Lorenzo Insigne, but at large help their opponents at bay whilst creating chances at the other end. Much like Atalanta, the game was settled late in the second half by a piece of individual brilliance, this time by Martinez.
Atalanta may have been the strongest side in the league since lock-down, however have looked off the boil in recent weeks. With a tie against Paris Saint-Germain coming up, and Champions League football all but assured for next season, they could be forgiven for being distracted.
For Inter on the other hand, anything other than a second placed finish would be a severe disappointment, having spent much of the season on top of the table. Conte’s players know they are part of a project, and only a win on Saturday will assure their manager’s favour.
Atalanta to score first at 1.76
Atalanta do not respect reputations and will have no qualms taking the game to Inter. That could well include getting the game’s first goal, even if it remains to be seen if they will hang on to the lead and second place.
Over 2.5 goals scored at 1.47
Atalanta only know how to play one style of football and will go for the win on Saturday, potentially leaving them exposed defensively.
