Sunday 8 December
Villa Park - Premier League
Aston Villa and Leicester City lock horns for the first time in almost four years when the teams meet at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon. While Leicester have been crowned champions in the time since, Villa are looking for another positive result on their return to the English top flight.
The teams drew 1-1 at Villa Park the last time they met, with Rudy Gestede scoring a late equaliser for the home team. In their first meeting of Leicester’s title-winning 2015/16 campaign, the Foxes came from two goals behind to score three times in the final 20 minutes and win 3-2. That was a fourth straight home win in this fixture, ended by the draw in their most recent clash, although that run goes back to 2014.
Dean Smith is hoping to have Anwar El Ghazi fit for this game, although the Villans boss continues to be without Keinan Davis. He should be back soon though, while Frederic Guilbert returns from suspension here. Jed Steer is going to be out for the next three to four months with an Achilles injury.
Leicester meanwhile have been doing well on the injury front of late, with Matthew James the only player who’s definitely out of this game. Demarai Gray should be okay after a bout of flu, with Brendan Rodgers enjoying a clean bill of health apart from that.
Aston Villa vs. Leicester Preview and Predictions
Aston Villa have made a decent start to life back in the Premier League, unlucky to only take a point from their game at Old Trafford against Manchester United last weekend. Leicester City meanwhile have been on a sensational run, and head into this game looking to stay on the coattails of league leaders Liverpool.
Rodgers has got his team playing some excellent football reminiscent of their title-winning season, although reeling in this current Liverpool team and staying ahead of Manchester City poses an incredibly difficult task. If the Foxes can keep all of their main men fit, as they’ll have here, they’ll certainly have a chance though.
That’s why the away team start as the 1.74 favourites for the win on Sunday, with Villa priced at 4.55. The Villans perhaps don’t have as many points as their recent performances have deserved, but despite that, Smith’s side have shown what they’re capable of.
With Jack Grealish in superb form, the Villa captain has demonstrated his ability to drive his team forward both literally and metaphorically, and with the home crowd behind them, the Villans will be a threat here. With that in mind, the draw could come into your thinking this weekend, and it’s available at 4.00.
Leicester to win to nil at 3.30
Prior to last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Everton, Leicester had won four Premier League matches in a row without conceding a single goal, so this bet could be worth a look for Sunday’s encounter. A 2-0 away win is 10.75.
Jamie Vardy to score first at 3.50
He may be turning 33 next month, but Vardy is in exceptional form at the moment. He is the Premier League’s top scorer with 13 goals from just 14 appearances so far this term - three more than anyone else.
