Arsenal vs. Sheffield United Predictions, Betting Tips and Previews
16 January 2020
Saturday 18 January
Emirates Stadium – Premier League
Arsenal are back home when in the Premier League when they face a reluctant Sheffield United, still consistent to their own form. After a small setback against the top two, Chris Wilder’s men have found form again and will provide a stern test for Mikel Arteta.
Sheffield United won the reverse fixture this term at Bramall Lane, when Lys Mousset scored the only goal in a 1-0 win. The last time these two sides met in the Premier League at the Emirates, the Gunners came out on top with a 3-0 win on September 23, 2009. Since then, Sheffield United have won twice at home and lost twice in the League Cup during their spell in the lower leagues.
Arteta will have to cope without his captain and leading goalscorer, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was sent off against Crystal Palace last weekend. The Spaniard has no new injury problems, as Calum Chambers, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney are the only three absent from the meeting with the Blades.
Simon Moore struggles to get fit from a pelvic injury but Dean Henderson has been Chris Wilder’s first choice between the sticks this term and the coach will count his squad as fully fit ahead of their trip to London.
Arsenal vs. Sheffield United Preview and Predictions
After a great start to the year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s red card against the Eagles at Selhurst Park helped the hosts keep Arsenal to a draw and made sure Mikel Arteta dropped his first points in 2020. The Gunners dominated possession against a determined Palace and will be looking to do the same against Sheffield United this weekend. A home win may be backed at 1.83.
But Sheffield United haven’t been promoted to make up the numbers among the elite of English football. Wilder’s men have really kicked off their campaign and are not stepping off the pedal just yet. After losing against the top two on either side of the New Year’s Eve, they’ve bounced back with a win in the FA Cup and three points at home against West Ham United.
The 1-0 win at Bramall Lane over David Moyes’ new side came after another impressive display by the Blades who are reluctant to let teams break them down without a fight. If you think it will end in a draw, it stands at 3.65 times your money.
Their goalkeeper Dean Henderson is on loan from Manchester United and will again be vital for the visitors as they are looking to shut down shop yet again when they are up against 10th placed Arsenal.
Arsenal will be desperate to get the three points against their direct rivals, since the match represents an opportunity to cut the gap to sixth-placed Sheffield United to one point. An away win and another statement from Wilder’s men in their first season back in the top division, may be backed at 4.50.
Sheffield United will go seven points clear of Arsenal with another three points at the Emirates against a London side who are in need of a triumph to stay in touch with the European places in the Premier League.
Total amount of goals Under 2.5 at 1.86
Even the two defeats against Manchester City and Liverpool, Sheffield United managed to keep the score lower than 3 goals or more. The away side have only conceded 21 goals in 22 games so far this season and have been able to keep most of their opponents at bay this term. If Arsenal win, don’t expect it to be a high scoring and comfortable success.
Sheffield United to win to nil 6.65
If you are considering punting on a Sheffield Untied win, you might as well add a clean sheet to the story. Henderson has kept eight clean sheets so far this term and the Blades have won seven of them. If they manage to keep Arsenal from scoring, the statistics say they will also win the game. Only a goalless draw against Watford on October 5 damages the record.
